I've been reading reviews of lenses and a lot of times they use the term "ca" as a bad thing, what is it?

Chromatic aberration - It's when a lens's optics make it so different colors of light are slightly offset from each other, making the image apear to have a slight halo of certain colors, usually around the edges. If it's too bad, it can cause the image to look un-sharp. Many image editing programs have tools to fix this.
