This has been an ongoing problem and just continues to get worse. Why aren't the politicians listening to the vast majority of Americans?

Politicians are only interested in getting reelected and, in many cases, setting themselves up for a lucrative job in the private sector when they leave government.

Both parties are trying to take the lead in opening the flood-
gates to immigrants, legal and not legal. They see these immigrants as future voters and expect them to vote for the party that let them into the country.

Politicians have their own agendas and will only listen to the people when they are forced to. That means that you and I, and others who share our concerns about the immigration problem, need to be in constant contact with our "representatives." We need to call, write, fax, and email them to let them know OUR position(s) on this critical issue.

The bottom line is that if we don't make a lot of noise, the politicians will ignore us and do whatever they want to do. Notice the actions of President Bush: He knows that more than 70% of Americans are opposed to granting amnesty and allowing even more immigrants to enter our country. But he is ignoring us. What has he got to lose? He'll be gone in January 2009, so why would he care what WE think?

Bush says immigrants (and that includes illegals) are "doing jobs Americans are not doing." But he fails to mention that very few illegal immigrants work in agriculture, picking crops. These immigrants are doing jobs "Americans are not doing" because many of these jobs are in the high-paying construction trades. And the reason Americans are not doing them is because they typically pay American workers as much as $25.00 per hour PLUS benefits. The illegals take these jobs for as little as $10.00 per hour WITHOUT benefits.

We need to remind our politicians that we CANNOT AFFORD to pay the freight for undocumented immigrants (a/k/a illegal aliens). One study indicates that for every dollar illegal aliens pay in taxes, the government (that would be US -- the taxpayers!) spends THREE dollars to provide benefits to these people. Another study found that every illegal alien who drops out of high school will cost the taxpayers $20,000 per year for as long as they live here.

If we don't get our point about this across, and SOON, it will be too late. A senate bill that is pending calls for providing legal status for all 12 million illegal aliens now in the country! Once that is done, it will be all but impossible to reverse it.

Let's get going! If we don't do something NOW, we will live to regret it.

Regards,

Scott

If problems were solved, what would the candidates bicker about come election time? The whole point of politics is the argument not the solution. For example, the Wall on the Border. Its not continuous. They are building a wall with holes miles wide. Its not supposed to be a solution its an issue to argue. Seriously 40-50 years and America's "best and brightest" cant figure out how to stop the flood? Its a scam. Democrats help the illegals to get the Latin vote. Republicans shake their finger and demand that the illegals stay in their country of origin (Mexico isn't the only one) to attract the nationalistic vote.

Go to U.S. Senate.gov and get the list of Senators and start e-mailing them once a week and let them know that you will not vote for them or anyone else who supports illegals. Additionally, demand law enforcement. Do not let the Senators tell you they can't cause 12-20 million illegal immigrants to be deported because if they can't do that, then how are they going to enforce any other portion of the law? When you're done with the Senate, go to the House of Representatives and do the same thing. It might take you a couple of hours to e-mail all 104 Senators, but it will be worth it. You can write out your letter, do a control c and then after you have filled in your information and e-mail address, for the body of the letter, you just do a control V -- cut and paste. Then you don't have to type the same thing over and over and you are still getting the word out. Do the same with your local and state elected officials. Demand that your local officials pass resolutions that they will not contract with any company that hires illegal immigrants and have them demand certification from the companies. Then refuse to support any business that hires illegal immigrants and report, report, report. When enough of us stand up and make enough noise, they'll realize that we mean business and they'll listen.

They are listening, it's just a monstrous problem and hard to control because there are so many ways these people sneak through. The just had a news story yesterday that explained how they "filled in a tunnel from Mexico that leads straight into Texas". They found thousands of pounds of marijuana at the Mexican end of the tunnel.
I work in Charlotte, NC, believe me, I suffer the consequences of illegals every day because they swarm here in droves!!
That is why I will support Mike Huckabee; he is in support of the Fair Tax Law which will force these illegals to pay taxes on there illegally acquired monies because it gets rid of the IRS and implements an across the board tax on everything! This means they will pay taxes at the grocery store, when buying clothes, cars, and anything else, just like we do!
Meanwhile, we get to take home our entire paycheck, and no income tax reporting at the end of the year! We choose how to spend our money and where to pay taxes. This will also keep our S.S. from dying out and it will be there for our future generations, too! Check out FairTax.org or read Neal Boortz's books regarding the Fair Tax Law. You'll be amazed! We rallied just under 10,000 people strong at the GOP debate in Columbia SC on Tuesday! Believe me, they know the people are catching on and demanding their own money be put back in their own pockets! I'm registered Democrat, but Mike Huckabee has my vote now!! He supports my money in my pocket, so I support him!

The answer is easy, but implementing it is difficult. Money: Contribute money to those candidates who support you. Volunteer for those candidates which support your position. Vote for candidates who support your position. If you do these things and lose, consider the fact that the vast majority of Americans do not see a problem. Perhaps your question should be why does American business not support doing something about illegal immigration?

I agree with Charles Barkley when he suggests fining corporations that hire illegal immigrants. The reason not much is done about this issue is that it would hurt big business. For instance, the meat packing industry hires tons of illegal immigrants to do extremely dangerous jobs for very little money. And if they get seriously injured or killed, well it's just too bad for them and their families.

It it to late, it is a done deal. No matter what happens with the rest of the bill, they were going granted amnesty to all the illegals what are in the country now, all all the ones that can print documents showing that they were also. I can just hear those printing presses warming up. We had been sold out for cheap labor.

No No No. You've got it all wrong. The question is:
How do you get people to stop being apathetic and lazy and stand up for themselves? Politicians ignore you because they don't need to listen to you. Don't you get it? They take your money BEFORE you even get a paycheck. They buy votes with OUR money. Not their own. And they laugh at us. The insanity will stop when we put a stop to it.

$$ Big business and special interest.

Write your congressmen and senator, mayor, other local representatives, join some of the stop illegal immigration groups. If you own companies do not hire illegals, if you are a landlord do not rent to illegals.

Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
