I think it's cute, the whole "Christ" mas. I just love when Christians ask this question, because as an atheist, I can point out four things.
1. Just about everyone before me pointed it out, but, your religion is a thief. You stole a Pagan holiday, so now the mugger is getting mugged! Bwaha, Christmas is now for the non-believers! Rejoice, freethinkers!
2. There is no historical evidence that Jesus was born.
3. Are you really going to nit pick because we don't believe in some dead or nonexistent Jew? C'mon, Christmas should be about peace and unity, and nothing, not even your religion, should come before your family. Besides, it's one of the few times during the year that all of the family members can take vacation and spend quality time together.
4. And who doesn't love getting blitzed off of spiked eggnog? First one to hurl shovels the driveway!
Holidays should never be taken seriously; I get enough of that from working eight hours a day.

Because it was ours first, dear.
In the 1990s, Christians regularly complained that calling things like Christmas trees Christmas trees was an insult to Christ, who had nothing to do with these trees.
In the 2000s, Christians now complain that calling a Christmas tree anything but a Christmas tree is an insult to Christ... who apparently has something to do with trees.
By the 2010s, I suspect Christians will start complaining about the use of Christmas on non-Christian things again. Big business ones will probably demand we not take the day off, and then in the 2020s we'll hear that atheists took the holiday away.

Christmas is actually three separate holidays, with three separate sets of decorations and traditions!
Christ-mas is the celebration of the birth of the child God. That child God was not Jesus Christ, because he was born in summertime. The Christian decorations include a manger scene.
Yule is an ancient pagan festival, celebrating how life survives through the winter. Yule decorations all have to do with nature- Yule logs, holly, wreaths, mistletoe, and Christmas trees. Ever notice how pagan those things are?
Xmas is a secular commercial holiday with no religious significance whatsoever. Xmas decorations include Santa Claus, Rudolph, Frosty the snowman, etc. It's all about the presents.

Because the religous holiday "CHRISTMAS" was spoiled through the eyes of man when they introduced Santa-Claus, Elfs, North-Pole Workshop, Flying Reindeer, and all the other christmas related things. IF you celebrate it for CHRIST and GOD the father, then good for you! But others have the right to celebrate it how they would like to also. All the wars on religion are such bull, they all suggest in a god that believes in freedom and non judgemental beliefs(for the most part), but that means supporting the non believers also. Loving them for who they are and not what they practice!

While it's true that Dec. 25 was originally celebrated as a Pagan festival, when they began understanding the message of the gospel and converting to Christianity, the day was chosen to represent the birthday of our Savior. Why? Because they were used to celebrating on that day anyway. So, no, it was not "stolen" from Pagans, it was converted.
Today, people use words like "stolen" or "made up" to rationalize the fact that they take advantage of any excuse to focus on themselves and their material desires under the guise of it not mattering because they don't believe in the significance of the day.
Fortunately, there are still those of us out there that keep Christ in Christmas, one of the most Holy of Holi-days.

The same reason some Christians celebrate Halloween. It's not only about religion. It's a holiday that is part of American tradtion.

Because Christmas is more of a secular cultural thing in this country than it is a religious thing. Besides, most of the things we traditionally do to celebrate "Christ Mass" are pagan in origin anyway. The tree, yule log, feast, etc.

Even though it's not Christ Jesus's birthday, it's a day that we celebrate it. Non -christians have turned Christmas into a traditional instead of relious day

Any excuse for a party... why did Christians steal a pagan holiday and pretend it's Christ's birthday? Why do Christians have Christmas trees? And Santa Claus and stockings, and easter eggs and easter bunnies and....
