At least have the "Parental Warning: Explicit Content" label on the cover of a Bible.
Rape, genocide, murder, and many other atrocities are found in the OT. I know I wouldn't want my impressionable child reading such horrific fairy tales. Would you?

No. The Old Testament is one of the best tools for Atheism ever created. "Thou shalt not kill" is stated pretty clearly in multiple places. Then God orders the following:
Joshua 6:21-24 "And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ***, with the edge of the sword. … And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord."
Kill all the people and take their stuff. Sounds all nice and moral to me....
This is only one example of the despot tyrant God of the old testament. Then for a God who is everlasting and unchanging, he makes on hell of a switch to the New Testament peace love and happiness hippie God. Talk about your multiple personalities...

You mean stay away from the Ten Commandments and all the lessons of forgiveness and Faith taught in the stories? No. Remember historical context, some of the things and metaphors were back in the day, but there are fundamental lessons to be learned that are the Backbone of Judeo-Christian Ethos (thus the two are together in the Bible.)

Kids should stay away from all of Christianity.
Telling children that there always being watched by a sky god that will torture them for eternity for doing anything wrong (including following natural impulses) comes pretty close to child abuse.

No, they should read it as much as possible because it is God's word and it is powerful and it reveals the truth....the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to us who believe- and to those who do not believe they will not see His word as truth- they will see it as foolishness, and God tells us that he has made what is wise in the world's eyes foolish, and what is foolish in the world's eyes wise.
His word is wisdom!
1 Corinthians 1:20
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

Nope. I can't think of a story filled with more adventure than the Old Testament.

If they live in Hong Kong, they may not get a choice. The bible is going to be sold behind the counters with brown wrappers along with porn very soon due to it's strong sexual and violent content.

No. They probably are the ones who would most understand the O.T because their faith is pure. We adults are the only ones who have come in and distorted the Word of God. May God Bless U.
