I completley agree. I am so sick of being told that certain thoughts, or words are not "Politically Correct." According to who???? And the thing is, there is a difference between being "politically correct" and being offensive. Every time I hear someone say "You know, that's not the politically correct way to say that" I want to kick them in the face...

I really hate that thing about lemmings.
It is not true about Lemming Mass Suicides.
Totally a nonfact.
It seems to have been made up by Walt Disney.
Unfortunately it is such a good metaphor for chronic groupthink that it will never die.
"Political Correctness" is just wrong on so many levels it is hard to know where to start.
It is everything about dishonesty when complied with and totally against free speech when enforced.

Political correctness (often abbreviated to PC) is a term used to describe language or behavior which is intended, or said to be intended, to provide a minimum of offense, particularly to racial, cultural, or other identity groups. A text that conforms to the ideals of political correctness is said to be politically correct.
The term "political correctness" is used almost exclusively in a pejorative sense. However, terms such as inclusive language and civility are often used to praise language that is seen by critics as "politically correct". Those who use the term in a critical fashion often express a concern about the dilution of freedom of speech, intolerance of language, and the avoidance of a discussion of social problems.
The existence of PC has been alleged and denounced by conservative, liberal, and other commentators. The term itself and its usage, however, is hotly contested. Some commentators, usually on the political left, have argued that the term "political correctness" is a straw man invented by the New Right to discredit what they consider progressive social change, especially around issues of race and sex.

I don't think "Politically Correct" means anything at all anymore. Once it meant the kind of super-dogmatic orthodoxy that some hard-core, humorless Liberals demonstrated. Now, it is used to condemn things like showing Blacks simple courtesy or suggesting torture is wrong.
These days I think using the term "Politically Correct" is the sign of being a lemming.

PC is stale at this point. It's a joke.
Everyone legal in America knows what is okay and what isn't- it's the extreme backlash that is now ensuing us.
We can say "Cracker" in a derogatory way without comment.
There is even a salsa sold at my corner market that is called "Gringo Salsa".
How can these two terms be okay when my own federal job application is looked over in favor of any person with a "foreign" name like Gonzales?
I am sorry to anyone that has been offended, but this is what I am experiencing! This PC stuff has gone over the edge to the point of extremism and it is HURTING rather than helping.
Thanks for the question- I am done.

No, politically correct is a term originated by the Supreme Soviet. There was one political party, so you were either correct or incorrect on any issue.
But it does resemble lemming behavior all too often, I must agree.

Yes. It is a collective of "brain police" that began with one penis-envious chick that collected followers determined toward political correction for the goal of homogenous "political correctness," a term for transforming "opinion" into the new definition of "fact." They, however, now have boats waiting in all formerly pristine coast areas, because a few boat builders were brainwashed into working for them.
edit addition: taking out the idiomatic application of the Question and the contraction:
"Is not 'Politically Correct' just another way of saying lemming?" - the answer is, "No," to the letter of the sentence. Although given "taking out the idiomatic application," the phrase "to the letter of the sentence" is perchance redundant.

Personally, I find that "politically correct" is just the polite term for "BS." It's those things that we say because we don't say what we really intended, we sugar-coat them as much as possible and say them another way. So by the time it's derived to the least offensive terms, it's all "BS" to me!

No;but it is time to forget about being politically correct and just BE WELL MANNERED. If people today were able to treat EVERYONE with EQUAL dignity and respect there would be no need for "political correctness." But,unfortunately we live in a world overpopulated by ill-educated,rude people who lack sense and have to be made to act responsibly and correctly(hence, the tired phrase "political correctness).
