In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Revelation 13:16-18. The number six hundred sixty six is the gematria number of a man's name. To read a good beginner's article about gematria, go here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gematria

Some folks mistakenly believe this number refers to Nero Caesar. This cannot be correct because the prophecies given in the Book of Revelation didn't come true during his lifetime. Therefore, this obviously refers to a future man, who most Christians call the Antichrist.

As further proof that 666 does not refer to Nero, read the following account, written by Irenaeus, a pupil of Polycarp, who studied directly under the Apostle John:

"These men, therefore, ought to learn [what really is the state of the case], and go back to the true number of the name, that they be not reckoned among false prophets. But, knowing the sure number declared by Scripture, that is, six hundred sixty and six, let them await, in the first place, the division of the kingdom into ten;"

("Against Heresies," Book 5, Chapter 30, paragraph 2)

Surely if Nero fulfilled this portion of the prophecy, John (the one who recorded Revelation) would have taught his pupils this! Incidently, Iranaeus also dispells the myth that the true number is 616, instead of 666.

It is in Bible prophecy of the last days...the number six, six, six....when talking about the Anti-Christ who will arrive and fool people into believing he is the Christ...it is a warning to believers to be watching for him....which is why sometimes the number is linked to the wrong person.....no one knows exactly how that will be connected but some are now connecting it to the bars that are written on all merchandise...because the number six, six, six is included on them......

There will also be the "beast"...which takes over domination of the world which some think may become the computer able to control all buying and selling which is also foretold.
Many feel we are getting very close to those times.

The numeral letters of his name shall make up this number.

7 is the number of perfection.

This second beast with two horns, may be understood of the heathenish priests and magicians; the principal promoters both of idolatry and persecution.

The Apocalypse Of Saint John
Chapter 13
16 And he shall make all, both little and great, rich and poor, freemen and bondmen, to have a character in their right hand, or on their foreheads. 17 And that no man might buy or sell, but he that hath the character, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast. For it is the number of a man: and the number of him is six hundred sixty-six.

It's described in Revelation. The Scripture says, "Here is wisdom. Let he who hath understanding count the number of the Beast, for it is the number of a man. And his number is , Six hundred, threescore and six." The number six in Biblical numerology comes to represent man or incompletion. Therefore, three "sixes" in one person comes to represent an "unholy trinity" of sorts, except that there will be three distinct entities, not one Spiritually indwelt individual serving the world during that time period. Satan, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet are going to be the offices of this "unholy trinity" that will exercise econo-religious control over the world using the 666 system, for "No man can buy or sell save he have the mark." No one can buy, sell, have a job and etc. UNLESS THEY SWEAR ALLEGIANCE to the Antichrist, receive the Mark and WORSHIP him!

It was a code name used for Nero back when the Romans used to guard the roads...it never meant Satan.

The first major persecutor of Christians is often considered to be Caesar Nero and the Christians used the underground code 666 to refer to him. This makes sense, because when "Caesar Nero" is translated into hebrew and is "coded" -- using the traditional Hebrew numerical values assigned to the letters of the alphabet -- the numbers sum to 666. This would have been rather obvious to Christians living at the time, but concealed enough so as to avoid being thrown to the lions. As can be seen, some meaning would be lost in the translation from latin to hebrew, which perhaps accounts for the "mystery" that seem to gather around "666". A Christian at the time would probably consider the matter subtle, but probably not mysterious.

Man and beast were created on the sixth day. When a number is repeated 3 times in the Bible if is referring to it in it's fullness of completion. Man and Beast, the end result, the end of days.
666

The book of Revelation

"And he (the Antichrist aka the beast in Revelation) causes all the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free man and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or sell except the one who has the mark either the name of the beast (Antichrist) or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast (antichrist), for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six." Revelation 13:16-18

Revelations Chapter 13, it is about the beast that exists until judgement day comes. Said number does not refer to a NAME of a certain individual, but to a TITLE given to the "chosen one". May God extend His love and mercy to you.
