is it legal for a car dealership to sell you a car and they dont have the title???

i have had the car since december of 06 and not gotten the tags cause the dealer says they are working on getting the title.

Wow! They haven't been able to produce a title in 6 months?

You need to take some action. Tell them they have 2 weeks to give you title to the car or take it back and refund your money. You'll probably have to get a lawyer involved, unless it falls under the limit for small claims court.

Laws vary from state to state. In Texas, it is a felony for a dealer to sell a car without the title. I would contact the Attorney General for your state's laws.
