My 3 year old daughter swallowe an earring on Tuesday i took to ER and they did x-ray and it is in her stomach they told me to check her stool. I did that yesterday and still no earring. She hasn't gone today. I wonder how long it would take to come out. She is doing well but she hasn't been eating much. Just drinking lots of milk and juice.

I am a radiologic technologist. We do studies where the patient swallows a capsule of little metallic markers. We then take x-rays to see how long it takes for these to leave the body. It usually takes around 3 days. But, I cannot remember ever doing this study on an adult.

The ER docs didn't tell you to call your doctor if this earring hasn't passed by such and such a date? That should have been in your release instructions. Usually they would say something like if foreign body has not passed by Friday, consult with your primary care giver. I would call your daughter's pediatrician and ask them when you should be concerned. They should have an ER report.

Don't think there is anything to worry about, as everyone else said it will pass. But if she starts to feel sick in anyway send her to the doctor as the earing could have pierced something.

But my kitten once ate one of my post earings (special full gold ones that are guanteed not to let the wearer have an allergic reaction) she turned out to be fine and she's on her 18th life by now :)

My 6 year old swallowed a marble..thank goodness he is ok. The Dr. said, I should give it a week and if it dosen't come out, he would have to get an xray, just to make sure it is in the right place..It came out on the 5th day...

It should be out in the next day or so. My son swallowed a marble on morning and it wasn't until 2 nights later that it came out.

It was a cheap one - so it could be full of lead. Not good. I would have him eat loads of high fiber food to move that through his body quickly. Cole slaw, bran cereal, a huge salad, or even fiber pills. I think if there is plenty of bulk moving through him the earring will pass without any trouble. I don't think I would examine the poo looking for the earring. Yuck.

When my daughter swallowed a dime it took her several days to pass it. Just relax and make sure she continues to eat and drink like normal. If you don't make a big deal out of it neither will she.

I'm sure she'll be fine. Children accidentally swallow things all the time. Continue to check her stools. It will pass very soon. Good Luck!
