My wife spoke to her friend from back home yesterday and this is what her friend's 3 year old has been telling them:
Okay, Jennifer (my wife's friend) is pregnant with their 3rd child. It is too soon to know the sex of the baby yet. They already have 2 boys, and the dad said he felt like this one was a boy too and wants to name him Charlie.
The 3 year old gets very mad when the dad says this and has said "NO! Her name is Kate. It's a girl! Don't you remember? Before we came here, we were all together? It's her turn to come.
They ask him, where? Where were we before, and he just says, "you know", and he never tells them an answer.

I think this is fascinating. I am a Christian. I have always believed that children forget more than we will ever know by the time they can really speak.
I have noticed that some children will reach out to a picture of Christ before they can even speak, as if they know Him.

I am mormon and believe that we all existed with our Heavenly Father before we came here. I believe we were there at the grand council in heaven where Lucifer was cast out.
I think it is amazing that this child seems to remember being there, and remember that his family was there with him.
He does not know any girls named Kate, nor does his mother or father.

Star if you think this story is amazing!!

Also, do you think they should name this child Kate if it's a girl?? I would.

I'll keep you updated when they learn the sex of the baby.

I agree fireball, that's why it's amazing to me that they've never mentioned the name Kate to this kid.

I'm having the same experience with my son. I'm not pregnant, but my son is always talking about "when his brother Eric gets here,". I don't where he got the name either.? He actually started talking about his brother before we started teaching him about the pre-exsistance. It just goes to show you what little angels children are.

When we are in the cycle of births and rebirths, every thing is possible. And when we say infinite and eternal, the story gets even more credence.

And when we say infinite and eternal, we are not lying. This is part of mathematics and calculus. Of course we can't reach there though, in all our lifetimes put together.

Isn't this world a fascinating place already?

I wish your friend have a healthy baby, and since the majority says Kate is fine, tell your friend that. I have no problems with Charlie also. It's as fascinating!

An interesting story, one that seems entirely plausible. I believe that we existed in a pre-mortal state of life prior to birth. Whether this next child will be a girl or not, perhaps other pregnancies by your wife's friend may be Kate, so it may not necessarily be this next one.

It's always hard not to read our own preconceptions into events like this. Maybe the two boys were once taken to a friend's house where there was a girl called Kate and he just vaguely remembers. Or maybe this backs up the idea of reincarnation.

Who knows?

Just keep an open mind and see what happens...

I've seen my babies do the same thing with Jesus pictures...

But frankly I'm a bit skeptical of the significance of these observations. There could be so many explanations for the actions of these children.

It's a bit like that quote I learned in YW: "In the last days, no-one will be able to stand on borrowed light." (or something like that). (Email me, please, if you know the reference :) These stories, to me, are just borrowed light. We need to gain strong testimonies of our own, based on our faith in Christ, "experimenting upon the word" (ie living Gospel principles) and receiving the witness of the Holy Ghost.

Thanks for the story though... a little bit of borrowed light still lights the path for a little while. :)

Added: Like Fotomama, my husband also saw our children before they were born. Still one more to come!

I think it's great! And, yes, if it turns out to be a girl, I believe Kate would be a wonderful name. What a cute little boy!

That is way cool! We have a woman in our ward who had a baby recently and he smiles whenever she sings hymns to him. He gave her his first smile when she was saying her first family prayer with him. Children definately know more than we ever will! Kate is a great name!

I think it's awesome. when my oldest son was just under a year he would be touching something that was not there just talking and laughing I asked him who he was talking to and he said his friend Jesus.
Now he is 19 and is going to be a pastor. If we pay attention to our children I think we can see their relationship with Christ.
