if dying is so great to get to heaven, why don't the very religious teachers and leaders strap one on themselves?

I've been wondering the same thing myself actually.. That would be an awkward conversation:
Terrorist Recruiter: You should take this bomb vest and strap it to yourself. Then go to a crowded area and blow yourself up for the name of Allah. You will go to Paradise for your great deed of killing the infidels.
Trainee: If this is such an easy way to go to Heaven, why don't you do it?
Recruiter:.... I uh... er.. that is... um... I need to stay to uh.... to... help recruit more believers to the cause.... yeah.. that's it..

It's a great misconception that people are told to kill themselves, most do so out of their own minds. If you watched that interview with the Palestinian in jail, you'd notice that he doesn't even know the basics about Islam, as the scholar that they interview opposite of his contradicts everything he says.

Because "leaders" of any faith preaching hate are cowards and fools. They don't care about their religion whatsoever. They only care about their personal power and controlling the masses.

terrorist bombers prefer suicide killings because if they lose out by not winning their is no one to torture and easier becasue their is no complicated escape plan

Because religion, by nature, doesn't make logical sense and is distorted by those seeking more power.
