God was teaching the Israelites a lesson on obedience. The golden calf is not a better option. It is just proof once again that people- not just jews- want something tangible that they can see to worship instead of the one true living God. Think about it though- if you saw God part the red sea, if you saw God do all the miracles that He did through Moses, how could you want to worship a golden statue, that could do none of these things? But in our humanity that is what we do. Today is no different then in those days- that is why it is written in Scripture to remind us of what God does so that we can learn to CONTINUALLY trust them. It was the Israelites that needed to travel for 40 years, if they had stopped complaining and worshiped and obeyed it would not have taken that long.

Not so!
I have already wandered 40 years.... in a desert life.... and I am finally beginning to see a way out of it......
There are many "golden calves" in the way.... And by God, I have not bowed to them.....
I have not always listened to that small voice... But, God knows how to speak to my heart.... It took all those years of wandering in this deserted life, that I learned where to look..... and so, it is my life's goal to show others how to look in that place we take for granted because of our freedom of choice.
He is working wonders...... I praise God for insight..... and because of Him, we do not have to wander, unless we choose not to listen to His instruction.....
His instruction, is the way out.... and that was the problem with the Israelites......

Ginger

They wondered for 40 years. . .but they never went without what they needed. Still they complained and griped.
Have you never noticed in life when you have trials or tests that you tend to keep going through the same crud until you finally learn how to pass it . . how to make it through? We all learn something from every thing we go through in life . . .sometimes it takes some longer than others.

Moses wasn't listening to God. God didn't make him do it.
