I have a set of twins and certain foods make them have reactions that in turn cause the day care to call me at work to come and pick the kids up... not to mention some of the foods are inappropriate for 18 month old kids. They are saying I have to bring in 3 weeks of menu items for them to be approved by a registered nurse then I have to bring in a thermomitor to make sure the food is the appropriate temp. at arrival. I have always brought in food that is in prepackaged containers and does not need to be specially stored! I also have to bring in the food that I have "planned out" in advance by three weeks! They also gave me two days to get it into them or the kids will be fed whatever! I wrote them a letter once that said that I was unhappy with the kids being dirty all the time and being in the wrong room and now feel that they are in turn retaliating against me because of it. Any suggestions or hints on this irratating "mole hill" issue.

I have talked with the director and written two letters so that my concerns were documented and I have also talked with the teachers, who just seem to agree long enough to get me out of the room... and no the day care has not started keeping them clean and they are old enough to be in the room they are in now but when it happened they weren't. In this area there are very few day cares and no private babysitters I can take the twins to, so it is making it a little harder... infact this daycare is the only one within 20 minutes of me! But what ever I have to get them out of there, but the next one doesn't have any openings until the first week of june. Not to mention I am the single mother of these two working a full time job with a new house... I don't have extra funds for a babysitter for my house... although I would love that!

Lastely, I have filled out the safe transfer form, a form that specifies what foods they are and are not supposed to get and another form ok'd by their doctor stating that what I wished was ok.

And you keep your kids in this daycare? Sounds like a very unsafe place with very uncaring staff. Try a different place for the sake and safety of your children.

You have done everything you can to try and resolve this issue and they sound terrible! I am glad you have your twins set up for a different daycare, but can you pull them out of here in the meantime - maybe a friend or family member could help you out until they start at the new place? They sound deranged - I would also document everything that has happened and report them. Goodness knows what is going on there.

Report them! It sounds like this place shouldn't be in business.
Get in touch with other parents and see if anyone else is having the same troubles.
Have you considered a nanny? I also have twins and couldn't find a daycare that could take both of them, so we found a nanny that is almost half the cost of daycare... Nanny's are wonderful - not only do they take great care of your kids, but they are fed what you want, taken where you want them to play and receive much more attention.
Good luck to you!

I think you seriously need to consider a new daycare provider. A loving daycare setting is happy to ablige to food preferences and I can't believe the lengths they have you going through and they are still complaining. Are they great otherwise and have they started keeping the twins clean? Still I would no longer feel comfortable with my children in their care if the simple and daily act of feeding them is a hassle. What else bothers them?

I agree with the others...get them out of there and find a different facility or person to care for your children. This place simply can't be bothered with 'special' diets; imagine if one of your children developed an allergy to peanuts/peanut butter. That could be lethal.

You really don't have any alternative - they are being completely unreasonable. When you pull the children, let the director know why - in detail.

Well I had issues with my daughters old school. You can legally bring in a docs note that will allow you to bring in food for your children and you will not need a menu or anything else. Honestly if it is a huge issue find another school because no one should go through that. Have you talked to the director yet because unless its a state law that you have to bring in menus and whatnot then there is no reason for them to give you such grief over this eating problem and if they continue to feed your children foods that they have illergic reactions to with them knowing they are illergic you can sue them in a heartbeat for endangering your childrens lives!

Call the child care licensing division or food program in your area and report them for not following dietary guidelines for your children. Get doctor documentation that your children are not allowed to have _________ to eat. Then when they feed them that anyway, sue them. Tell them you want to see their menu three weeks in advance so that you can notify them if your child is allergic to anything on it. Pop in a lunch time to see if they are sticking to the menu and your guidelines. They are there to serve you, if your dissatisfied my best advice is to find new childcare. I know that can be hard with twins and infants at that, but it is probably best for your children from what your question says.

This is NOT a mole hill issue.
Find another daycare, if you can at all.
They are NOT acting in your children's best interestd when they feed them "whatever".
This is NEGLECT and should be prosecuted!
Also, their insurance ocmpany should be notified.
What would happen if they gave a chlid a food that resulted in anaphylactic shock?
I've worked in special ed and in mixed classes for pre-school through three years old.
We'd be fired if we ever gave children "whatever", and then tried to send them home!

You must have realized, prior to seeking a day care facility, your twins have certain food issues, therefore, you should have been prepared to provide what ever was necessary to have someone watch them. It appears YOU were not prepared and now you must play 'catch -up'. Each facility has their own rules (and some mandated by the gov't.) and you should have asked more questions in the beginning.
Do what they ask of you or find another place for them!

Put your kids in a different daycare and turn them into the state.
