I am looking for a new laptop and don't want Vista. I like XP but have only found ones with MCE installed. Is it essentially the same system as XP as far as running programs? Thanks.

Yes it is identical. Windows XP MCE is a direct copy of windows XP Pro, with the media centre software bolted on.

MCE is the same as XP. It just includes some extras for doing "multi-media".

If you already have a copy of XP, and the activation code, you can always format the hard drive of the new laptop you buy and just install XP yourself....
