I am sure it does contain bacteria, incidentally all bacteria are microscopic. If you only knew the number and variety that your own body contains. The vast majority of bacteria are benign, harmless little critters. Wash the fruit before you cut, to ensure that bacteria on the surface do not carry through the flesh on the knife. These external bacteria often come from animals on the tree, picking the fruit or in the warehouse and would be the most potentially harmful. Eat up and enjoy, remember also that papaya can be cooked with meat as a tenderizer.

Papaya is a very healthy food. Whether it contains bacteria, I don't know. Yogurt contains lots of bacteria, which are very helpful to your digestions. All bacteria are not bad. Eat it and enjoy, unless you have some medical condition which you haven't told us about.

I hate to break this to you, but just about everything you eat has microscopic bacteria in it. Cooking kills the bacteria in meats. Some bacteria are actually good for us. Our system needs certain bacteria in it to function correctly. Like Yogurt. It contains live bacteria in a good form.

Hope this doesn't ruin your appetite. Bon-a-petite!
