Like a lot of people I enjoy Agatha Christie stories but I don't go so far as to believe that Hercule Poirot is real and demand that you too must believe he is real.

You don't have to do anything. But, the stories in the Bible change lives and hearts. Agatha Christie's stories merely entertain. Big difference.

If you want to read the Bible as history, or mythology, or whatever genre you like, feel free. But, we are judged on what we know.

Try reading the Bible metaphorically, not literally, and you may come to a better appreciation of its messages.

Whose to say that you have to believe them "real"? Only a portion of Christians actually believe in a literalistic interpretation. In my view, God speaks to everyone--just in different ways. Look at all the world religions!

The Bible is not meant to be read just one way. Seek out the alternatives to Christian fundamentalism; maybe you will find some truths that speak to you there.

You ask a very good question--Keep seeking the answers!

Everyone makes a choice in life. What we decide to believe or not believe is our decision. You are not forced at gunpoint to believe the Bible. I choose to believe because as History teaches, many Archaeological finds were the results of what the Bible mentioned when many not believe. Wars have been won using the same Battle Tactics of Joshua. World is said to be round when many believed it was flat. We are told how to protect against germs when man not believe something he not see could exist. So, many things were told before man ever knew of these things, including, I believe, Dinosaurs.
But, this my choice and I respect what others want to believe. But, as I said; We are responsible for everything we decide to do in life, we can blame no one but ourselves for the decisions we make.

Well....I like Frank Paretti novels, and I even thought "The DaVinci Code" was a good novel, but they are ADMITTEDLY fiction works - promoted as such by their authors.

The bible is TRUTH and promoted as such. It's up to you whether or not you believe it, but I challenge you to read it daily with an open heart....but you must also keep in mind that once you have read His word, you WILL be held accountable and will not be able to plead ignorance when the time comes for you to stand before Him.

Because the Bible IS real. It's not a fictional story. it's a guide for your life.

I don't think in Christianity you have to take it all on it's word. Everyone knows the Bible is a collection of other's people's stories, not the actual word of God.
As long as you are learning to be a good person, I think you can get the lessons taught in it without buying it word for word.

I would not say any one must do anything against their own free will believe or not this is you own personal choice.
