from what I see the only reason most don't like the SDA church is because they have to many rules.People only look at them as rules.God gave people the freedom of choice. If you're SDA and eat pork, so what? The church can't condem you for it and if they do then they need to take a closer look at themselves.Sure they get this from the bible, but it's not so much about these rules, but more about serving God.That is what should be your first priority. As for the whole Sabbath thing, from sunset friday night to sunset saturday night is the Sabbath day created for resting, like Jesus rested on that day.Yes, people should worship everyday, but the true Sabbath is the day that we should all take a rest from the world, this is a specific time set for a one on one with God, not just for a few minutes or hours, but a whole day.I guess my question is not so much why do people dislike Seventh-day Advestist, but why do you let petty things like that get in the way of something that can benefit you?

Just so you all know Ellen G. White isn't the founder of the SDA church (so if you want to knock the church, learn more about it first please) and once again... these so called "rules" are what it seems most of you are paying attention to, even those that agree with me. I'm not trying to convert you or change your opinion, I just want you to see that most of us are all trying to serve the same God, it just gets annoying when people say negative things about a religion I strongly believe in because it seems that some. And actually nobody can stop you from doing those things that you believe SDA think shouldn't be done. I'm mean I know a lot of people who are SDA and eat meat...I eat meat, maybe not pork because I just don't like it, even before I became SDA. The definition of a cult is great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work or formal religious veneration : WORSHIP. Wouldn't that mean all churches were cults. And nobody actually answered my real question.

I have no quams with them.....
They are perhaps, the closest thing to the truth as we Christians are.
We disagree on the placement of the sabbath perhaps....but other than that.....they believe in the trinity....and they believe in salvation by grace through faith.

Hi
I am a Seventh Day Adventist. I was born into an SDA family, but do know the items that made me uncomfortable when I was younger.
Yes, some of the things I read in the EGW books made me somewhat uncomfortable then. There are a few years that I never even came near to the door of an SDA church, or any other for that matter.
Now though, I find that I am right into it, and the thing that seemed to make the difference as far as I can determine, is "understanding".
There was a time after I was inspired to read the Bible through from cover to cover, that I knew that I could now study anything in the Bible (any religious material or subject), and pray, and that because of God's loving promises to me, I would sooner or later know the truth in regard to all.
I do not say that I understand all, but as the Lord would have it, I do understand a great (very great), deal more than I did previously. My heart was somehow set to know all that I could in regards to what is taught in SDA circles (and there is more than one train of thought on many of the subjects within that body), and what is taught by others. I studied with a purpose to know and do all that the Lord would require of me.
Not living by my own will so much now, and not looking at anything set before me as "weird" or "stupid" until I check it out with the Lord.
As far as I can tell that approach makes a difference.
Today I see what EGW is saying, and most (yes, even many holding SDA membership), would be surprised.
In many instances she is saying the exact opposite of what is commonly thought.
It really all does fit together. Ask me any specific question if you like, and we'll see if I am permitted to give you an answer that makes a difference.
The Bible can be understood, and she does teach that one who is truly the Lord's cannot lose salvation. The question is perhaps though, How does such a person think -- what motivates them, and what will they become? What will they eventually allow the Lord to do for them? What does the Bible say?
So then, the short answer is "understanding" or a lack thereof. And to gain a real understanding of what is being taught takes not only time, but the right attitude.
We in this generally disrespectful generation need to seek God for an attitude of reverence.
This is where it all begins. There is only so much a proud heart can learn. We must recognize our place in relation to the One that rules the universe. We must learn our place even though we may think we have it all figured out. We must realize that humble is the perfect and logical place for us to be.
Take Care

Most Christians who dislike Seventh Day Adventists do so because they like sin and do not want to have to obey the Commandments. It is quite simple. And they hate Ellen White because people have always hated the true prophets. They show us that we are violating God's Law. Human nature loves to sin, and comes up with all kinds of excuses to sin. They turn against the Messengers of God, rather than to stop sinning.

The SDA church is viewed as a cult by many Christians; while others won't go so far as to label it a cult, most Christians seem to agree the SDAs were founded by a false prophet, Ellen White.

If you're a SDA, you won't agree but you'll understand the many reasons why we feel the way we do.

I agree. I am a SDA, and we follow these rules because we love the Lord and He will never withhold anything that is good from us, only things that will hurt us. Some people think that we are "under the Law", but the NT says frequently that "if we love [Jesus], keep His Commandments". Christians ARE obligated, even more than unbelievers, to keep God's Law. Without the Law, there is no sin, and without sin, Christ died in vain.
Pork is a filthy meat that contains trichina larva, carcinogens and artery-clogging saturated fats. It is not an animal that God designed for us to eat. God's health laws found in Leviticus are not part of the Mosaic ceremonial law, which was "nailed to the cross". The 10 Commandments weren't nailed to the cross, either. That is the Moral Law. The Moral Law and God's health Laws are meant to be eternal laws that are good for all humanity, not just Jews.

I think some people dislike Seventh-day Adventists because they somehow feel threatend by the fact the ten commandments tell them to keep the seventh day (saturday) holy. And nowhere in the Bible do they find something about the Sabbath having been changed. Unwilling to accept that they are breaking one of Gods ten commandments they try to avoid a feeling of guilt by criticizing the members of this church.

Christ was resurrected on a Sunday. The Jews who don't believe in Christ go to church on Saturday.

It doesn't matter what day you worship on, as long as you worship! I - personally - go to church on Sat. night because I like it better than Sun. morning. A person shouldn't get hung up on "disputable" matters like the pork thing. What matters is that you love Jesus and follow his teachings - Love other people and try to make the best choices possible.
