Whose family -- yours, someone close to you, a neighbor's? My sympathies if it's a loss you feel personally. If this is someone you know well, then it might be easiest to ask what they need. Otherwise, choose something that requires little or no prep at the reception, and something that's easy to eat standing up. Finger foods (like the chicken salad sandwiches mentioned in another post) are good. Fruit or veggie trays often fill a hole in the buffet spread, and don't need to stay hot. Another thought is to bring something, like that lasagna, that the family can have later (and you might want to bring it to their home a few days later) when there's not a lot of energy for cooking and the kindness will be welcome as a reminder of support. Whatever you choose to bring, it will show you care.

I would bring any type of finger-food - such as little sandwiches, devil-ed eggs, cold cut platter & rolls or something like that. Or if you have time a good old stand by is a big pan of lasagna. Something wholesome for the family to eat - as they probably aren't doing much of that

Main dishes or meats always seem to be in short supply so I would suggest one of them.

Veggie and fruit platters are always good. Finger foods, sliced meat and buns to make yourself.
Sorry for your loss.

hi

i'm sorry to hear about your loss.

i think that whatever you like to fix, is just fine... something easy would be great! people take casseroles, salads, or desserts... some even get food from a deli...

take care..
