Go to a salon and have a professional hairdresser take a look at it. Since your hair changed colors unexpectedly when you bleached it you cannot possibly predict the outcome of dying your hair again. Bite the bullet and go pay someone to help you out with the new dye it'll be well worth it.

You don't have to dye it brown first. You can just use a brown filler. To do this apply an ash brown color with out the developer wait about 10 to 15 minutes do not rinse. Then apply your plum color with developer on top of the brown. Process as usual and rinse. Doing a filler instead of coloring twice will cause alot less damage. Hope this helps.

You should have allowed the bleach to process longer if you wanted if to be blonde..........however, now that it is orange ot should be easy to go straight to plum red, not brown.

If you try to dye it brown first, it will pick up too much green and fade to an ugly color(like an ashy green tinge). When people try to dye their hair after bleaching, they usually worry about it picking up too much red and fading to orange. Not a problem if you want it to be red !! Orange is the best base for that, and it womt fade as fast.

I would keep dying it the plum until you get it back to the way it was. I think brown then plum would be to many different colors. It's always easier to go darker.

Have a hair dresser do it. You have a lot of red in your hair pigmentation so all you need to find is the right hair color shade. Try Excellence by Loreal or Garnier Nutrisse. What you see on the box is the precise color that you will achieve. If you are heading to a hairdresser, ask her to find the right shade for you in CHI hair color collection.
