Forward thinking Catholics believe Martin Luther was on to something...
Modern Catholic authors speak with much greater sympathy about Luther than Luther ever did about the papacy after 1520.
Luther has asked the Catholic Church many questions which, so far, have only been imperfectly answered. There are human, there are religious values which among the Reformed faiths have been better developed than in the Catholic world.

I am surprised at how tame the responses have been. I have known a few Traditionalists that would have some choice answers for this question.

"Once Saved, Always Saved" in the Reformed sense was neither taught by nor taught by the Lutheran Church. I think that you are confusing Luther with someone else.

Show me in the Bible where Christian Unity is more important that sound Doctrine? To be honest, I have always thought that Christian Unity to the Roman Catholic Church was always about retaining earthly power and the numbers (pride). Because everyone knows the biggest is the best in this world and its more important for Christians to remain unified (under the Pope) than to be splintered and doing their own thing. Thus the emphasis that Apostolic Succession is MORE important than the Apostolic teaching (Scriptures) and the Apostolic Ministry (Sacraments).
Our Lord in Mark 9:38-41didn't seem too concerned with people remaining under his Jurisdiction when the Apostle John came. John wanted Jesus to make the other person (casting out demons) to stop, because that person was not following us, Jesus and the Apostles. Jesus says, "Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. For the one who is not against us is for us."
Also, St. Paul didn't get wrapped up in this either. In Philippians 1:15-17 Pauls says, "What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice."
Is Christian Unity important? You bet you. Is it more important at the expense of sound Doctrine? No.
And after 500 years, we have seen that Martin Luther and some of the other Reformers were right about the Roman Catholic Church.

Well they would probably say that Luther's teachings would inevitably spawn a tradition characterized by continuous fragmentation into thousands of conflicting denominations, and utter doctrinal chaos. They would probably say that this would happen because Luther rejected the only genuine source of authority Christ gave us, His holy Church, and tried to set up a book compiled under the authority of that same Church as his new "authority". They would probably say that such a system could not possibly work, and would certainly bring about the destruction of Christian unity, in direct contradiction to the stated will of God, "that they all may be ONE". 16th Century Catholics did make all these claims, and now, 500 years later, we plainly see how right they were.

I say he cared more about his word than God's. For hundreds of years the Bible was accepted, then he decided to alter it to serve his needs.
Why did Luther reject 7 books from the Bible?
Because they did not suit his new doctrines. He had arrived at the principle of private judgment - of picking and choosing religious doctrines; and whenever any book, such as the book of Machabees, taught a doctrine contrary to his taste he rejected it overboard and overboard that book went because it says: 2 Mach. xii 46, "it is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from sins." He not only cast out certain books, but he mutilated some that were left. For example, not pleased with St. Paul's doctrine, "we are justified by faith," Luther added the word "ALONE" to make the sentence read: "We are justified by faith alone." His explanation of this insertion is found in his own words, "I know very well that the word 'alone' is not in the Latin and Greek texts; but Dr. Martin Luther will have it so, and I order it to be so, and my will is reason enough. " St. Paul writes under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Luther creates a Lutheran Bible under his own audacity. He shows little respect for the Bible when he calls the Epistle of St. James "an Epistle of straw with no character of the Gospel in it." He spoke disparagingly about the Epistle of St. Jude, the Epistle to the Hebrews, and the beautiful Apocalipse of St. John.

He may have been right about church corruption, but had the wong means. He started a wave of divisions that lead to the 2000 different Christian denominations and sects today.
But there were those who were also right, but had the right means, they are called "saints" and "doctors of the church". we need more people like that.

His teachings are erroneous. Once save always saved is a new teaching and basically what he taught. he relied mostly on the book of Romans for his teaching and ingnored everything else the bible says about that subject.

Obviously they hate him. They call him the heritic, when they are the ones that made up all that stupid rituals and crap and teachings not found in the bible. Where the hell does it state Peter was "The Pope"? Jesus didn't make the cross thing with his arms when he prayed, or kneeled in front of statues and crap, in fact, Jesus wouldn't want a statue or painting made of him, the whole graven image thing.
