i wish i knew what kind of baby bird you found i could help you a little more ,wild baby birds needs to eat about every 15 minutes and even at that they will act as tho they are starving to death go to your local pet store and there you should be able to find a baby bird food called kaytee exact this is a very good food for baby birds it is very important for them to get the vitamin they need if not it can cause a very painful death for the baby bird you will also want to get a syringe to feed the baby bird with the pet store should have this also just walk by and every 15 minutes give the baby a dropper full to a half of dropper of the food it will seem as tho the baby bird is swallowing the syringe don't freak their just hogs at this point when the bird becomes very active trying to fly stick him a dish in the cage with fruit cocktail and shredded wheat with some can dog food a couple of mealworms the worms moves so this will cause the bird to want to pick at the worm don't use earth worms this is a great diet for the older bird continue to feed to baby bird food until the bird starts eaten will on it's on just cut back on the baby bird food so it will start to want to hunt for food the mother bird does this also this is how she gets the babies to follow her so she can teach them to hunt they only need a very small amount of water every few days birds don't drink much water i raised a baby mocking bird,a dove and a blue jay last spring 2 of them at the same time it was fun when they became grown i released them they hung around in the yard for a long time it is important to still feed them at this point also they need to learn to hunt they will fly to you for bugs if you need more info email me at southerncharmer26@yahoo.com p.s after about 4;30 you can stop feeding the baby give the baby at least 12 hours with out any food this allows them to digest every thing they have eaten. good luck again p.s not all birds have crops birds that don't will starve if you wait to see it raise doves pigeons hawks are the main ones that do so don't worry about this and even with birds with crops as long as you give them that 12 hours with no food that is plenty of time to clean their crop out also so don't freak about this

You committed the cardinal sin of removing the bird from the nesting area, the parents would have been feeding and caring for it ,or else you would have found a Dead bird. If it is not long since you removed it put it back then check to see how it is ie, is the crop full?also you do not say what species of bird it is?but the best ting to feed it on are Meal or Wax worms and never bread or Milk, these could kill it especially Milk. What you really need now is to take the bird if no parents are about to a rescue centre where they will know the species and what it feeds on. If you do not then you will end up with a Dead bird on your hands.

We found a baby bird and it seems like he wants to eat all the time is there a limit? We bought worms and he eats them fine but his mouth opens every time we walk by. This is a wild bird.

The last thing in the world you want to do is to be giving a wild baby bird you found live worms. You will end up making it sick or killing it.
No matter what, it is very strongly advised that you seek professional help by contacting a professional wildlife rehabilitation center. In North America, it is against the law to hold wild birds for any length of time, and for any reason. Use this link to find a rehabilitator in or near your community: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm This link does not contain all professional rehabilitation centers though. Check your local yellow pages, or ask a veterinarian, animal shelter, or wildlife officer, to see if they may know of a center near you.
DO NOT RAISE BABY BIRDS ON YOUR OWN - Baby birds are very difficult to hand-raise.
Their diet is very specific and varied depending on species and the incorrect or too much food can kill the baby or cause improper bone, growth or feather development. Birds cannot digest milk because they lack the proper enzymes.
Temperature and housing requirements are very specific.
Young birds must be fed every 10-30 minutes (depending on age) from dawn until dusk.
Baby birds are often dehydrated and hypothermic and must be handled properly.
Song/vocal development in birds is partially, if not entirely, learned so birds must be raised around their own species.
4) LAWS & REGULATIONS - All native wild birds are protected by law! It is illegal to keep them as pets or to raise orphans unless permitted by the state and federal governments.

I depends on the type of bird and the age as well. In the past I have rescued doves and stuff like that. I was told to offer it the yolk of a boiled egg and water using a straw to put it in the birds beak. It was fed every few hours.

They will eat as long as you supply the food. They will gorge themselves if you let them. Just a small amount of seed is fine twice a day, maybe 1/4 cup or so.
