not sure what wire you connected it to, but either you chose the wrong wire, or more likely you have a faulty switch.

Usually, a person will connect the amp remote turn on wire to the power antenna wire on the radio... that way when you turn the radio off, the amp shuts off as well.

If there are times you want to listen to the radio without the subs, I'd put the switch on the amp remote turn on wire or run a new lead directly from your battery to the amp remote wire.

If you put it on the power antenna wire, i'm not sure if the led would light up, depends on how much your current your led would draw. The power antenna wire only puts out like 1/2 amp max @ 12v. If you put too many things on that wire to turn on/off, it could at a minimum blow your main fuse to the radio or worst case cause internal damage to your radio.

You might be better off to just run a separate lead from the battery for the amp remote wire.

to answer your Additional Detail information:

you either have:
- a bad led switch
- faulty switching inside the amp that makes it stay on even if you turn the separate switch off,
- another wire on the remote terminal of the amp that is connected to the main power line of the amp.

The switch isn't working because you have the connections mixed up. Don't cut the power of the receiver, connect the switch in the remote wire of the sub's amp. Probably the switch burned if you didn't check the power specs of the switch, maybe you fried the LED when you mixed it up. check the switch with the battery to make sure it still works, then.
If you are using the switch to turn on /off the amp just connect it to the remote wire of the head unit. If is a stock unit and don't have the remote then connect the remote wire to the accessory radio fuse, on your fuse panel. That way when you turn on the radio the amp will turn on and you wont have to worry about forgetting to leave the amp in ON, discharging your battery.

If you have the wiring diagram, look for the 12V power line to the subs amp. That would be the place to put the switch. If you are having trouble, then take the car to an auto audio shop and have them take a look and let them wire it for you.

Ask yourself something.......

Are both speakers on the same circuit, or are they on two different lines?
