It's kind of like the abusive parent who "loves" her children. If I do something wrong, I get walloped for it big time. If I do something wrong in the eyes of god, I spend eternity in a burning pit of hell.

You can ask for forgiveness from your mother too, but that doesn't mean it's ok that she has those consequences.

Or so say the fire and brimstone preachers. Don't believe anyone who asks you for money.

hi, first of all there is no mention of going to hell after death in the bible, the bible sais that the wages sins pay is death nothing more. God hated those who used to put their children through fire, so there is no way that he would punish humans like this. And remember that when u do anything wrong u can ask for repentance from god for your sins because of the sacrifice of Jesus. The following scriptures should help you Romans chapter 6 verse 23 -
Human sacrifices were used to worship false gods, in Judah latter the valley became a dumping ground for all the filth of Jerusalem. IE dead animals and dead criminal No living animal or human were put there to die.
so it could never symbolize an invisible region were human souls go to be tormented after death. Hope this helps

God loves you so much that he gave his son so that you might live. Yes, you sin, like all of us...but sins are forgiven if you ask, this is the GRACE of GOD. Just because you have committed a sin does not mean you are going to a figurative hell.
You need to study the theology of Grace before you make comments like this.

So...good parenting means letting your kids do whatever they want without punishment? So, if your child continues to go into the woods, where it is known wild, dangerous animals play, you wouldn't try to stop them? You would say, "let the child learn on his own," knowing that one day one of those animals would kill your child?
Sometimes, you have to punish your children if you want them to do the right thing.
That's not entirely on topic, but I just wanted to say it because punishment is a NECESSARY part of loving parenting.
As for God's love...He's trying to keep you from hell. We were created not to do as we wish - we are God's creation. We have a choice - choose life or choose death. The answer is up to us.
And although God tries His best to suade us from the "death" choice, He allows us to make that decision in the end. We are grown-ups and we are responsible for our own actions.
Hell is not a "punishment," its our choice. Its our decision. We choose to defy God and follow our own route, knowing the eternal consequences.
God loves us and wants us to choose life - to be with Him. What child wouldn't want to spend time with the person that loves them most (usually their parents)? God gives us that opportunity for ETERNITY. What greater love is there that He died for us so that we could be joyous forever?
But many of us still choose death. We still choose our own way.
But God will not MAKE us choose Him. He'll let us decide on our own.

Mysterious ways.
If I held a gun to your head and said, "You can choose to believe in me and my love for you or get shot in the head" is it really love?
You can avoid getting a bullet to the head if you just ask for forgiveness.

He loves you enough to allow you to choose. Choose life with Him through the blood of Jesus Christ, or choose eternity without Him.

have you heard of repentance, the whole purpose of christ coming to Earth was to complete the atonement, the atonement allows us to be forgiven if we say we are sorry, then there is no burning, if you say you are sorry (repent).
