it maybe fiction but it works on cold hard fact. you look at nine out of ten things in that film or the book and search them on any search engine and you'll find them. real life facts. if you look at a photo of the painting and look hard enough you'll see the things the film points out. the eye only sees what its wants 2 see.

The book is fictional. However, some of the ideas are factual, but exagerrated.
The bible was translated many times over and over again through the years, and during the roman catholic/protestant dispute, the bible was slightly altered, so ther bible you're reading is not original text and may not even be a very valid factual book.
I'm an atheist, personally, and I think the entire thing is ridiculous. However, The Da Vinci Code is a fictional book and a fictional movie. Therefore, although some stipulations have been made to argue it's validity, it's not something that should be taken as fact at all.
Christians should be more open minded to realizing the text they read is changed and somewhat warped, but you can't tell people what they can and cannot believe.
And as for the Pope question, people really do believe in Christianity. It's valid to them. And it gives them reason for living, in a way. So let them. As long as they're not forcing themselves onto us, (although they do in modern American society) they're fine. End of story.

I think it's a could only be a good thing. The trouble with most Christians and the reason they get judged quite harshly is because I find most of them have a very narrow view of everything. The books included in the bible were chosen by men to encompass the events and beliefs of a religion. A true Christian is someone who is "Christ-like" in the way they live their life. This means no judgement and treating others as you would want to be treated. View the movie as a work of fiction. If any aspect of this book were true, it's not a relection on Jesus Christ, it's simply a reflection on a church, run and at times corrupted by men. It doesn't mean you don't have faith in Christ it just means that you're either interested in a fictional work or you are an open minded person that understands that it's never good to believe everything you're told, even if someone did put it in a book. Christ is still Christ and no movie will change that or what he did.

I am no Catholic, and I would never subscribe to their teachings about works to get into heaven, but to say they they changed the Bible is untrue. Do you really believe Mary Magdalene was intended by Jesus not just to lead the disciples, but to be worshipped? Do you really believe the Shekinah Glory was a female deity? If you do then you blaspheme your own (albeit false) prophet.
The Da Vinci Code has been proven to be so wildly inaccurate that only the ill-informed regard it as anything other than a pulp novel. See:

Could Allah have a son? Sura 39:4 affirms and Sura 6:101 denies this possibility.
Did Jesus Die already? Sura 3:144 states that all messengers died before Muhammad. But 4:158 claims that Jesus was raised to God (alive?).
One Creator or many? The Qur'an uses twice the phrase that Allah is "the best of creators" [23:14, 37:125]. What other creators are in mind? On the other hand, many verses make clear that Allah alone is "the creator of all things" [e.g. 39:62]. There is nothing left for others to be a creator of.

I hope these, and the other quotes on the sites I've indicated, will make you look more closely at Islam one of many hell-bound religions.
May God bless you if you sincerely search for the truth.

Oh come on even the National Geographic channel had a swing at how bad the Da Vinci code was on it's history. About the only thing they got right is the name of some of the cities and there was a Leonardo Da Vinci. With that logic people should watch Star Wars to learn astronomy.

Ok hang on I am giggling here
Yes there is SOME fact in the DaVinci Code, that is what made it such a good story.
The Pope is a position of power, I am sure there have been some pretty greedy men in that place over time. There a time called the Reighn of Whores that talks all about it.
Are Christians afraid of the truth? Sometimes I think they are. They are so incredibily threatened by evolution and the like. BUT if you read Angels and Demons, its all about blending science with religion.
Not all Popes are bad. They are men of God trying to make the world better in thier own way, even though I don't agree with most of it.
Never accept anything ONE book tells you. Always look for proof in several. The DaVinci Code was inspried by fact, but its fiction.

This is NOT historic facts!!!!!!!!
This is exactly what I've been afraid of. People believing the Da Vinci Code crap. There is another book on the marked which is a much better read and that is "The Da Vinci Code Deception" by Dr. Erwin Lutzer. The only fact in the Da Vinci Code is that Leonardo da Vinci painted the "Last Supper".

I think the Da Vinci code was fiction but had a lot of historical facts within it.
I'm pretty sure the Bible is exactly the same

EDIT: all the people who have answered saying that the person asking the question thinks the Da Vinci Code is fact should re-read the question

If the true Bible is gone, why do the earliest manuscripts we have match the Bible we have today? If what you say is true, then why arent the earliest manuscripts different?
If Rome invented Christianity, then why did God tell the apostles to found his church? How do you then account for the existence of the early church which predates anything Rome did?
Do many churches today not resemble that early church and have nothing to do with Catholicism?
God is powerful enough to create and inspire Scripture but not powerful enough to preserve it? That bit of logic always seems to escape the average Muslim.
The fiction that is the Da Vinci Code tells us nothing factual about Gospels. It is a clear case of Gnostic philosophy which isnt Christian to begin with and is based on misunderstandings of what are false Scriptures to begin with.
Your point of view is full of false assumptions and misunderstandings which you are forced to hold to be able to deny the Gospel of Jesus Christ because you know darn well what the Scriptures say, you just dont want to do it or believe.

The author of The Da Vinci Code clearly said that the book is fiction. He's just sitting back reaping the profits and watching everyone go haywire.

No one should watch it as a true story, its fiction. There are yes, some historical facts that the story is built around, but only that which can be documented can be said to be fact.
Do you think someone has to worship the Bible in order to be a Christian?
