Abraham knew God. Not like we "know" God - he really KNEW him, as in he conversed with God and literally heard God's booming voice speaking to Him.

He knew God so well (His attributes as well as His personality) that He knew, as Paul says, that God would raise His son from the dead. More than that, my personal belief is that Abraham did not believe God would allow him to kill his son at all, as he said to Isaac that God would provide a sacrifice...and since He knew God's love, Abraham knew that sacrifice would not be his son.

As for God and Jesus...God sent His son to die for all of his other, "adopted" children - namely those who accept Christ. Jesus always had the option of saying "no." But He chose to obey His father and to love both Him and us. Jesus was a willing participant.

As for bad parenting...it IS a theme of the Bible - just not in the examples you describe. Among the terrible parents in the Bible are Eli, Samuel, David and Soloman.

Ooooh ... if Sawyer and Kate were my parents, I'd be the coolest kid in school. I'd also have major mental issues because I currently fantasize about both of them. At the same time. Every chance I get.

This one is simple. The passages in the bible that instruct you to beat your child are numerous. Some even require you to use an instrument, such as a rod.

"Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with a rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with a rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell."
