You have to drink an extreem amount of water in a very short period of time for this to happen. It is just like anything else, if you ate 500 apples in one day, that could probably kill you too. Everything in moderation.

Years ago there was actually a child abuse case where the father made a small boy drink so much water it actually drowned him...but on a day to day basis too much water is not going to kill you...Flushing out your system is great for you.

It helps cleanse and hydrate your body. BUT you did hear right. If you are drinking to much water to fast you can get water poisoning (they say cut your weight in half and that number is the number of oz of water you should drink in a day), it is when your body is not releasing the water fast enough (urinating, spitting, sweating etc) therefore causing you to die. It can cause your brain to swell.

Lots of things good for you, can cause you pain or illness if done to extremes. See "exercise" "sex" "laughing" and other good-for-you things.
Water in excess can overload your system, dilute your mineral/vitamins/proteins, etc. and make you sick.
Not very possible, since most people lose about a half gallon of water everyday-even if they don't exercise to excess or run marathons.
Try to be good to your body. Treat it like you want to still be walking around in it in 50 years.

If you drink too much water, you dilute your system, your tissue swells because of the water. Your brain will swell too. Just do a google search on the subject.

too much water can overhydrate you--basically dilutes your blood. This can cause heat stress like symptoms.
