It's what's good for an ailing planet....less religion means less war, more thinking about our fellow residents of this home of ours, more enlightened thought altogether. Atheism, it's a good thing...

edit....figures some nitwit would give my answer a thumbs down....

edit edit.....taff (next answerer below) I volunteer at a school; I am a foster parent; I am an adoptive parent; I was a volunteer firefighter for several years; I gladly pay my taxes (although I know some of the money is wasted, it's the price of a civilized society); and I know that there are some shades of gray as to some the answers to some of the questions ; and that I can't will my problems to some mythical sky marshal.....now how does my life stack up against some holier-than-thou religious lemming who dutifully goes to church on Sunday but then beats his wife on Monday, ships his or her company's jobs overseas on Tuesday; sends our best to an ill-conceived war on Wednesday; cheats on his taxes week in and week out; ...etc..etc...you may get the point by now......

Logical Response instead of Emotional:

Atheism can't do anything bad, neither can Christianity. They are beliefs, not people. It's people who do good or evil. That's the old blame the gun, not the murderer argument. Well, kind of - guns are inanimate objects we can touch, beliefs are cognitive.

If you are saying Atheist, then you are generalizing which leads to logical error. You can't prove that all Atheists are bad; just as you can't say all Christians are good.

Atheism in and of itself has done nothing bad. Have people who are atheists done bad things? Absolutely, but you can not blame atheism itself for that. Have atheists done good things? Absolutely, and I dont give atheism credit for that either.

The Christian idiots LOVE to compare Atheism to Totalitarianism. They think that they're the same thing apparently. The thing is they have nothing to do with each other at all.

Wonder if they think that Democracy is solely an American thing.... nah, they can't be that stupid. Then again.....

I can't think of any, and as your answers so far show, neither can anyone else. Of course we get the ignorant "let's blame atheism for the evils of communism" line - they don't seem to have anything real, though.

SDC, you forgot to point out that we eat babies.

I associate atheism with the Renassaince, the Enlightenment, science, and humanism. If it weren't for those pesky atheists, we could still be burning witches at the stake at the town square. Instead, we are stuck watching "America's Next Top Model" for entertainment.

I don't know if Atheists are to blame for the suppression of religion in schools and everywhere else. It's freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Not freedom not to practice religion. I think all religions, atheists, and agnostics should be allowed to practice their beliefs, or lack thereof, freely. Christians shouldn't be punished for bringing a bible to school, Muslims shouldn't be punished for bringing the quaran (sp?) to school or work or whatever, Atheists shouldn't be punished for telling them that their Gods don't exist, and agnostics shouldn't be punished for not knowing what's they believe.

1) The usual atheist dictators can be attributed. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot...
2) The reduction of right and wrong has caused society to be more violent, more criminal and more self centred and self indulgent.
3) The lack of moral centre has caused the increase in Sexually transmitted diseases, abortions and rapes.
4) The promotion of people like Richard Dawkins that says children of Christian parents should be taken away. (Sounds like Stalin and Hitler to me)
5) No right and wrong etc. has caused the increase in drug and alcohol abuse.
6) No accountability, like that which is taught in the Bible that each person is accountable, has created corporate Enron's etc. "No one will ever know "
7) Generally lied about the scientific evidence for God and Jesus.

"The principle of [divine] purpose ... stares the biologist in the face wherever he looks ... . The probability for such an event as the origin of DNA molecules to have occurred by sheer chance is just too small to be seriously considered ... ."Ernst Boris Chain - Nobel Prize in medicine

"There is no incompatibility between science and religion... Science shows that God exists." - Prof. D. Barton, Nobel Prize Chemistry

Even Antony Flew the former atheist (30+ years of speaking as an atheist) that had debated men such as C.S. Lewis (An atheist that became a Christian) recently said that the latest biological research "has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce (life), that intelligence must have been involved."

Secular political leaders have done things to further their political ambitions- very few people have died as a direct result of atheism. Millions have died as a direct result of Christianity.

Atheism cannot do anything bad, it is the rejection of the concept of God. People choose to act in bad ways and those who choose to reject Christ only do bad to thenselves.
