Check pressures at least fortnightly but do a quick visual check daily, mainly for any obvious signs of damage.
It's amazing how much pressure a tyre can lose before it actually starts to look soft

You should check tyre pressures at least fortnightly using a good quality gauge or garage airline.
Figures are always quoted cold so pressures should be checked at home. The simple pop-out pencil gauges are generally reliable and are cheap to buy. This will also mean that you won't have to rely on the gauge on a forecourt airline - these can be inaccurate and/or difficult to read.
Take the opportunity to check the general condition of the tyres too - look for cuts in the sidewalls and check tread wear too.
Don't forget the spare.
Be sure to check the handbook too as this may well specify different pressures depending on the number of people or load you're carrying.
Safety and tyre wear can be adversely affected once pressures drop by more than around 10% from the recommended.

I check tire pressures on my vehicles once a week, along with checking fluid levels, especially on my wife's car. It's a habit I try to get my customers into as well. I used to run a monthly car clinic at my shop for my customers and I would go over what should be done once a week, a month, etc. Tire pressures, fluid levels at least once a week. Buy a good quality tire guage, not one of those cheap 99 cent ones either, and be sure to check the pressures when the tire is cold, first thing in the morning. As for what pressure the tires should be? Consult your owners manual or the tire pressure placard on the driver's door or "B" pillar. Depending on the vehicle, some tire pressure decals are on the fuel fill door, to remind you to check them when you fill your gas tank.

Tires properly mounted should not need frequent checks of air pressure with a gauge. Visual appearance and tires squealing when making turns will give away an obvious incorrect pressure situation.
That aside, if you are more comfortable with frequent gauge checks, get in the habit of doing it the same time each week or month. Perhaps link it to a repeated activity.
