I only look left it I want to turn right? then look right to ensure the road is clear. If I want to join traffic flow, turn left then I look right. If I am joining a roundabout I always look right as well as thats where the traffic is coming from. Also if I am overtaking, I will take a glance in Right hand mirror and over shoulder if unsure to ensure everything is ok, never left, unless pulling back into the left lane of course.
Why would I just want to look left, silly idea.

Cannot give you an answer. It depends on whether they're turning left or right and also on which side of the road they're driving on. You don't say where you're from so it would make a difference if you provided more info.

I think it's because most people who are right handed instinctively look to their weaker side (the left) to check for danger so that they are better prepared. But also, depending on which country you drive in (UK and Australia drive on the left hand side) you are probably just looking for oncoming traffic first.

Do they ? from where do you obtain this information....

Of the eight members of my family and several work colleagues asked all stated they looked right first because that is where the immediate danger lay ( UK roads )

But which way are they turning? You need to be more specific. Do they ever look up? Hmm......
