Love handles are just excess fat sitting on the hips. In order to lose the love handles you need to lose the fat. Up your cardio.
Side bends will only work your obliques.
Some gyms have hip abductors and adductors, these can help work the muscles around that area. But as I mentioned earlier, if you lose the fat, you lose the muffin top! Clean diet + plenty of regular exercise= weight loss and a trim body! Things like this take time and patience but if you keep to it you'll reap the rewards.
On the other hand, a lot of guys like a more curvacious woman rather than a lean stick with no shape. Love your body for what it is! Hope this helps! :)

· Cut the salt
The amount of too much salt in your diet is responsible for around 80% of love handles. High amount of sodium in your body will direct to "water retention," which makes love handles more prominent. So reduce the amount of salt in all kind of food you use.
· Cardio Training
The key to having great abs is burning more calories than you take in. Aerobic training combined with the tips above does just that. If you want to get rid of love handles then get up off the couch and go for a walk, take a bike ride, or play some hoops. Find something you like to do and keep doing it.

overall weight (fat) loss
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You must reduce your overall fat
The love handles may be the last to go, if at all
Exercising an area will build muscle in that area
That may not be what you want
Sylvester Stalone has his love handles surgically removed

You cannot spot reduce. There are three components of fitness:
Cardiovascular / aerobic exercise: walking, jogging, bicycling etc. for at least 30 Min's 3-5 X's per week
Strength -training-free weights, machines or calisthenics 2-3X's per week.
Nutrition-watch your diet; eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water.
The weight will come off where it wants to first!

The only way to get rid of love handles is to decrease your overall body fat. I agree...it's completely annoying that fat wants to hang out there, though.

Do regular cardio, running etc, plus when you do crunchies, focus on obliques... like a regular crunchie but where you lay both knees to one side, or where you cross one ankle over the other knee and try to bring your elbow to touch the raised knee.
