I have a floppy disk that was formatted on Win98SE and now I cannot read its contents on a computer running Win ME. I cannot even format the disk on the new computer. I keep getting a message that says something like "capacity of disk is incorrect". I need to get to the contents of the disk. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Computer will read it no matter what windows you have even vista, that means the floppy is bad.

It sounds more like the capacity of the floppy is exceeding the the capacity of the disk reader on the computer running ME. I suggest copying the information onto a folder with the 98SE computer and e-mailing to a web based e-mail program that can be accessed by the other computer.

98 & ME are essentially the same operating system. ME just has more "eye candy".

3.5" floppies come in two standard sizes, 1.44MB and the older 720MB version. This is the one I think is causing the problem.

Try reading the floppy on a friend's XP PC. It has nothing to do with ME. Better, do you know anyone that still uses 98?

If either works, copy the files to a 1.44MB floppy and go back to ME. Last resort, is to try any Linux Live CD.

One of two things could be going on. One either your disk is going bad or Two ME is not reading it. Try writing something to it on 98 and if it works then something is wrong w/ ME. If it does not work then your disk is bad. The biggest prob. in this scenerio is ME. When ME was released it had so many problems it's not even funny. My advice is either replace ME w/ a diff. ver. of windows, or stop using ME all together.
