I mean...since God knows all, he must have known that women are too curious and that Eve would eat that apple. Come on! And...since God knows all, he must have known that Satan would become Satan. Come on! It all sounds like entrapment to me.

Nothing in religion makes sense. It's good that you obviously don't take it seriously.

... and no, there is no such thing as 'free will'.

It's more BS than that, even: humans have no real control over their choices - they simply have the illusion that they do.

As you say, Eve would have eaten that apple every time, all other things being equal. It was her optimum choice at the time, and only an external context change could alter it.

If God had said, prior to the event, "And you, Eve, don't go listening to that serpent. He's a liar and a tempter, and he's going to try to make you eat of my tree. Don't, or it's your @rse!"
- then it wouldn't have happened (well, it didn't happen anyway, of course)

Humans will always choose the optimum solution. And if you tell them: "Don't choose the optimum solution", then that just makes a different solution optimum!

Does God really care what happens to us humans?

Yes, indeed! Consider the evidence: The Bible tells us that God gave man a perfect start. (Gen. 1:27, 31; Deut. 32:4) Man’s continued enjoyment of God’s favor, however, depended on obedience to his Maker. (Gen. 2:16, 17) If man was obedient, he would continue to enjoy perfect human life—no sickness, no suffering, no death. The Creator would provide man with needed guidance and would use His power to safeguard mankind against any calamity. But man rejected God’s guidance; he chose the course of self-rule. In trying to do something for which he was never designed, he has brought calamity upon himself. (Jer. 10:23; Eccl. 8:9; Rom. 5:12) Yet, over the centuries God has been patiently seeking out those who, because of love for him and his ways, are willing to serve him. He sets before them the opportunity to enjoy all the blessings of which they have been deprived because of man’s imperfections and misrule. (Rev. 21:3-5) The provision God made by means of his Son to redeem humans from sin and death is a marvelous evidence of God’s great love for mankind. (John 3:16) God has also set an appointed time when he will destroy those who ruin the earth and will cause lovers of righteousness to enjoy life in harmony with his own original purpose.

God does know everything but guess what we do not know what we will do. What we will say and so our choice we make is our own. But seriously God gives us choices, And also gives different answers for each choice. It is like when a parent tells a child you can either go to the movies or go skating this weekend but not both. Each have side effects. If you go skating and can't skate you can break your leg or you can learn to skate. Going to the movies gives no exercise and is like being a couch potato, or it can be a time of relaxation. Either choice is yours to choose with different consequences. You pay the price for your choice either blessing or a curse.

I've come a long way towards thinking that free will is nonsense yet it lingers in my mind that we do have a degree of control over that one aspect of life, our thoughts. It's the direction through life that seems governed by outside influence. So then: is it in the realm of what could be; that free will is expressed in thought, and does this expression of what could be in thought manifest into self direction despite the societal controls that are turning the rudder of each individual and everyone's collective independence? I think perhaps yes, but I'll have to live longer and experiment more to establish this as fact for myself. Good question, thank You.

You are correct. If God exists then Free Will is an illusion. But Free Will is actually the reality of our experience because God DOESN'T Exist. The instant one postulates an 'all knowing god' and 'Hell', this god automatically becomes a monster for the reasons you just stated above.

Religious people need to wake up.

No it is not. You have the Free Will to type this. Same difference, AND Eve DID NOT EAT an APPLE. She was seduced by Satan, the Tree of Knowledge of GOOD AND EVIL. The SERPENT is another name for Satan. PLEASE read with UNDERSTANDING, AND IF you want more help, let me know and I will do so. read the 1st few Chapters of Genesis and you will see if you take off the Spiritual Blinders, what happened.

lovebomb, i think you need a deeper bs-bible study ...

well, true he knows everything, and we certainly don't. and it would be better to know why he decided such things in the past to help us understand what he plans for our future.

FREE WILL as the others said is truly the ability to choose between right or wrong. God did not make us like robots that will do just what. . .without thinking. .

and it's a gift actually. :-)

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice,
If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice,
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill,
I will choose a path that's clear,
I will choose freewill ! N.Peart -- Rush

Stock answer 13245: God works in mysterious ways.

I thought I'd get that in there before the christians did. It cheapens the answer when it comes from a non-believer.

As for free will / predestination: It's unmeasurable, unalterable and ultimately irrelevant. Nothing about either view alters anything.
