I have migraines, and have used an old fashioned method and it works! Tie a scarf, etc around your head. Notice how when you have a headache you squeeze your head and it feels better. Same thing. I use a man's tie, its thin and stays tied.

Good on you! Best hangover cure is a pint of water that includes a vitamin B supplement, Berroca or something similar. Some paracetamol and a good lie in. If the lie in aint going to happen then a good greasy breakky of bacon, eggs, mushrooms served on a thick slice of toast. Or as the purists say and for your liver a bowl of fruit. If you don't have work the next day then the hair of the dog is a good tick.

Kinda depends on what is causing the headache
First choice--take 2-3 Tylenol--depending on how often you take Tylenol and how large you are. Should work in about 30 minutes
Second choice--put cold compress on back of neck and forehead.
To consider--also a very high blood pressure can cause a terrible headache.
If it is a migraine--lots of sleep is best.

It depends on the cause. A migraine may be impossible without painkillers. If it is caused by neck muscles you can stretch your neck and shoulders or massage the upper back area and that should help. If it is caused by allergies (ie sinus headache) you need an antihistamine or decongestant.

I don't take opiate painkillers for headaches as they seem to make it worse for me. The only thing that works is taking 3 or 4 Advil/Ibuprofen (200mg) and drinking a glass of water and then lying down. It seems that if I don't lay down for a while, it won't go away. That is the ONLY thing that works for me.

when you say painkillers I assume you are talking about over the counter Advil and Tylenol. Why would you not take these if you had a "bad" headache.
who knows? you can also try:
-cold pack
-meditating (only benificial if you have kind of done this before)
-sleep
-relaxation/visualization exercises
-cold shower
-music
OK, I am done for now

I read this one in a magazine years ago : Keep 2 basins in front of you or use your double sink in the kitchen. Half fill one with very cold water and the other with hot water (NOT boiling ofcourse , but as hot as you can handle). Now place your hands in the hot water for 30 seconds, remove them and then in the cold water for 30 seconds. Keep alternating for about 6 minutes and it should ease the pain in your head considerably.

Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.

Place an ice pack on the back of your neck in a quiet darkened room for fifteen minutes. This usually helps. Massage the temples as you are laying down.
