Ladybugs eat aphids, which are like very very very tiny plant lice. (Good luck trying to see them with the naked eye.) Your best bet is to put it back into a garden where it can find aphids and keep your plants happy and pest-free.
If you want more information, you'd probably do better to post this in the Science/Biology or home/garden categories, instead of the rodent category.

hmmm... just let it go. thats the best chance of it surviving. They are not as stupid as you think. Nature can deal with its own problems. We wouldn't have any bugs if they all died from the cold now would we?. It will find a way :] But if you refuse to let it go then first things first. -make sure there are holes in the container you are keeping it in!

Pet ladybug??? Maybe check the internet for research abut it's regular diet in the wilderness.

i've never heard of a pet ladybug. what do you feed it? i know they like to hang around aphids.

Best to let it free to hunt aphids and breed.
If you keep it it'll most likely die.
