I know there probably all on the banned dogs list around the world, but would it be an American Pit Bull, Japanese Tzu, Rottweiller, German Sherherd, Doberman, Rhodezian Ridgeback (that they use to hunt Lions) or an Australian Pig Dog (for hunting wild boars) ?

Many times its the owner (or others who tease and torment the dog) and not the breed that causes the problems. However certain breeds such as Pit Bulls were bred purely for fighting and the agressiveness and unpredictability is there already. Its not something the owner can just 'control.' Others such as German Shepards, tho I love these dogs, tend to suffer more often than other breeds from psycological disorders such as seperation anxiety.

To be honest I've never met a Rottwiler I didn't like or behaved agressively but, I'd never allow it near young kids unsupervised.

A Dog is only as good as it's handler - if the handler mistreats the Dog, what chance does the Dog have?

The following is not intended to offend anyone, so I apologise now if I do. All the following breeds are incredibly intelligent happy and easily trainable. The only people who should be offended are those who would mistreat any animal enough to make it vicious.

Rottweillers are heavy when they want to sit in your lap and lick your face :) The German Shepherd was designed to herd sheep (Shepherd = Sheep herder), but these days are incredibly versatile and can be trained to do pretty much anything you want them to. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a Lion Hunter, but in Australia without any Lions they tend to be incredibly lazy, but extremely good family pets as with all the above dogs and also the Doberman's - they were initially bred to be a family companion dog!

Most Dogs suffer from stereotyping - as someone else has written, small breeds tend to be the ones that will send a groomer home bruised and bleeding. I'm a groomer - I've only ever been bitten by Chihuahua's, Maltese, a Springer Spaniel and Shihtzu's.

In a group of Dogs of mixed sizes, you will always see the large breeds defer to a dog of a smaller size - in a household with 2 dogs, 1 small + 1 large, the small dog is always the Boss!! Weird, but true when you think on all the houses you know who have 2 dogs like this.

There's no such thing as a vicious dog breed, just vicious individual dogs, which can be of ANY breed. Breeds or types(which includes mixed-bred dogs)that are popular with criminal human types tend to make headlines more often, but when you see how they're often treated, it's no surprise. Those types of dogs vary with trends and popularity, like clothing or music styles. In the '60's, everyone was afraid of German Shepherds, and German Shepherds dominated the attack statistics. In the '70s, it was Dobermans, Now, it's "pit Bulls", which is a media catch-phrase for any dog that bites, growls, pees on someone's car tire, etc. Government officials are more ignorant of animal issues today, and much more easily influenced by the Animal Rights movement, whose main goal is to end ALL human/animal contact and interaction, including the breeding and keeping of pets. It's in their interest to bring about their goal through breed bans, one breed at a time, until there's no dogs left that you CAN legally own. By manipulating the media, they can achieve that goal faster by convincing the public and the politicians that "Breed X" is more dangerous, then add "Breed Y" and "Breed Z" and so on.

Statistically pits or staffies, rotties, or mixes of them cause the most bites at over 70 percent. German shepherds are also counted in that group sometimes, sometimes not depending on the reporting agency. Chis are the next highest percentage of biters at over 20 %, but they don't break the skin very often. I have never heard of a chihuahua mauling.

Many of the "popular" breeds get over bred and have poor attitudes such as the cockers mentioned before. (We had the nastiest little cocker about 25 years ago!) There are probably a lot more bites never recorded from other breeds too. If a pit bites someone everyone screams vicious dog. If a cute little Maltese nips, then it is more easily ignored. Pits and staffies are the most dangerous though.

Pit Bulls aren't vicious, if you read books on them you'll find out that they are actually one of the best dogs for children if they're raised right. Little dogs aren't good for children because when they get older they nip and get very aggressive. I've owned a pit bull, a german sheperd, a rottie, and my grndmother owns two Rhodezians. All were/are GREAT dogs!! Especially around kids!

Groomers find cocker spaniels are the worst biters and for many yrs Chow Chows were mainly nasty. Vicious against people or animals is 2 diff kettle of fish, many like people(Pit bulls) but fight other dogs. Others may be dog friendly but not like people..

I have a Rottweiler and he isn't vicious at all. Has never bitten anyone.
Personally...I don't think any dog would be vicious, aslong long as they were trained correctly and bought up in a safe, relaxing, low stress environment.

There is no particular breed that is the most vicious than any other. There are just chosen breeds that ignorant humans chose to make that way!!!!

the smaller dogs are the most vicious by nature. The big ones like Rotts are gentle and kind until you get them going, then they are unstoppable killing machines. If you want something that will attack everyone, get a terrier, if you want one that will kill on demand effeciently, a rot is a good choice. Nothing matches their power, but they aren't very fast.
