You are missing the point. If god destroyed the tower to prevent it reaching heaven then heaven is physically extant above the earth. Remember the bible is the "inerrant word of god".
So where is heaven? BUZZ - another contradiction.
Sarell's point is wrong. They could not make their hearts reach heaven in this way so god would have no point to destroying the tower. The bible states as clearly as it does anything else that they were approaching their goal. With physical building supplies. There is no reason to interpret this into meta-spiritual building supplies.
pumped up: The point was not that they were trying to reach heaven - the point was that they were prevented from succeeding. Ergo heaven is supposed to be physically above the earth.

In the physical sense, the term “heavens” covers a wide range. While it may refer to the farthest reaches of universal space, it may also refer to something that is simply high, or lofty, to a degree beyond the ordinary. Thus, those aboard storm-tossed ships are said to “go up to the heavens, . . . down to the bottoms.” (Ps 107:26) So, too, the builders of the Tower of Babel intended to put up a structure with its “top in the heavens,” a “skyscraper,” as it were
Genesis 11:4....They now said: “Come on! Let us build ourselves a city and also a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a celebrated name for ourselves, for fear we may be scattered over all the surface of the earth.”
God's purpose was for man to fill the earth and most of all worship Him.
The Tower of Babel episode was another human rejection of the divine will, and God’s intervention resulted in human defeat and subsequent migrations of language groups to the ends of the earth.

I totally agree with you Sarell. It was the hearts that made God's decision to stop the construction of the Tower. Pride against God will ultimatley destroy and confound the unwise and haughty of heart. It happens all the time. Look at Hitler, Stalin, Herod, Pharaoh,........the list continues.
If God can create earth, walk on water and has the power to forgive sin forever, I would think He has the power and Authority to place Heaven in such a place as not detectable by shuttles and satellites. C'mon. Admit it, your just trying to discredit truth. Impossible!

It is a very good thing none of our rockets punched a hole in it. If they had all the water on the other side of it would have leaked down and flooded us out again.

Gen 1:6 ¶ And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Gen 1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so.
Gen 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

OK here we go . lets start with he Bible story.
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
so it was not the building that was the problem with God, but because of the fact they were of one mind. you can not tell from scripture what was on their minds. unless it was that they were going to make a name for ourselves.but what they were planning must have been wrong otherwise part of the Trinity would not have stopped it.(let us go down) so the problem comes down to what is in a persons heart and minds.

seriously?
how many 4,000 year old structures are still in place today? Come on!
God probably destroyed it anyway, but that is no reason not to believe the Bible... the Tower of Babel - come on!
The Bible doesn't say how tall it was anyway, or if they even came close to heaven. The point was that they were trying to reach heaven...

It was just God's way of saying,
"You can't get here from there."
(You need a flaming chariot or be God's Son to do that.)
Rockets and skyscrapers were not made to get to heaven, they were made for scientific exploration and commerce respectively. People were way sillier back in Biblical times; they had all kinds of crazy ideas.
Can you imagine being God and waking up every morning, looking down and seeing what the little people are up to? I think He's entitled to throwing some lightning our way or wrecking a few buildings now and then.

It is not the structure that would reach heaven it was their hearts and motives the story is real but you have to look at it from there perspective not today's .
In their hearts' they were trying with all their might and power to obtain God's prsence but He can actually be reached in other ways that they never thought of and should they have done perhaps things might have been different for them.

ISAIAH CHAPTER 14: 12-17
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

Hey, could you ask this question again a little later in the day? It will get a lot more answers then. Its still pretty early in the States and most fundamentalists are not here yet. You will get a lot more answers then and this question is just too good to waste!
