From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
Respect for health
2288 Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God. We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good.
Concern for the health of its citizens requires that society help in the attainment of living-conditions that allow them to grow and reach maturity: food and clothing, housing, health care, basic education, employment, and social assistance.
2289 If morality requires respect for the life of the body, it does not make it an absolute value. It rejects a neo-pagan notion that tends to promote the cult of the body, to sacrifice everything for it's sake, to idolize physical perfection and success at sports. By its selective preference of the strong over the weak, such a conception can lead to the perversion of human relationships.
2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others' safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.
2291 The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.

The Catholic Church teaches that substance abuse is a sin against the commandment- Thou shall not kill.
It is also a sin against the cardinal virtue of temperance (moderation).
The Church also teaches that substance abuse can be a result of either deliberate self-destructive behavior, or due to an underlying mental or emotional condition....as such, those who abuse should be helped compassionately to understand their addictions and the adverse effect on themselves and others.

Write your question in Google and seek it that way. i'm no longer precisely specific what you're asking. of direction the Church isn't an excellent fan of substance abuse. i do no longer comprehend what information you're searching for. i'm specific you will discover it on Google. It does no longer be in the catechism.

Well, I am a devoute Catholic. It is a mortal sin. It falls under the sin, "thou shall not kill". Now, people take this commandment to literally, when it says thou shall not kill, it doesn't just meen, don't kill people and such, it also meens don't kill yourself, don't kill others, don't kill someones good will, don't kill yourself slowly (such as alcohol abuse and such). Its ok to have a few drinks now and then if you are drinking responsibly, alcohol and drug abuse are under the fifth commandment about killing. Its also a mortal sin if you know its a sin and you purposly and openly consent to it. This meens that if you know its a sin and you commit it anyway, its mortal. Hope this helps.

Im a catholic and in our faith any kind of substance use is seen as a weakness, and being tempted by the devil. Of course this is highly contradictory as most catholic priests (I know anyway) like a drop or two of liquer!
Strong catholics (nuns etc) would say people who abuse substances, drugs etc need to be punished and have 'the devil beaten out of them'. harsh I know and you probably wont get anyone else being as honest but believe me, I have studied the faith for a long time and know what goes on!
Maybe not so much these days, but deep rooted faith is unbreakable. In short, devout catholics would urge abusers to repent, turn to god and beg his forgiveness.
(Catholicism is quiet tough you know!)

The use of drugs inflicts serious harm. Their use (except for therapeutic reasons) is a grave offense. Selling drugs is a scandal, a serious offense and a direct cooperation in the evil of another.
Peace and blessings!

Drug abuse is against the 5th commandment as it's harmful for health.
Tobacco and alchohol must be used in moderation.
Remember that God made all things good and for our enjoyment.
