I must say that you got rather interesting responses thus far. I have extracted all four wisdom tooth (thankfully not all at the same time), the first being a surgical extraction. The dentist put me to sleep and twenty minutes later, I woke up and there was no tooth. You can eat normally foods as soon as YOU are ready. You will not get any infections or irritate the gums, though I would suggest not eating tortilla chips (sharp edges). After my extraction, the first two days, I survived on wanton soup, since the wantons themselves required no prolonged chewing; smoothies, and other milk-based drinks. By the third day I was eating normal foods quite happily. As regards the stitches, they don't exactly dissolve, as fall out, I would say in about two weeks. I pulled out my last wisdom tooth, thirteen days ago, local anesthetic, no stitches and the extraction site is almost closed. You did not mention how many wisdom teeth you extracted, but if when you bite, it's too sore, lay off the hard stuff but if you can handle it go back to you normal diet.

well just wait, you don't fell pain now but you will soon, once the aneasthesia wears off, so take the pain killers, do not open your mouth big you can cause a lt of dmage, damaged gums, broken stitches, you need to eat soft foods for like a week

You can't eat properly! You've had surgery. You're supposed to stick to soft food until the stitches are out and the gum has closed up. You wouldn't go jogging after having your appendix out!
You can phone NHS Direct and talk to a nurse for advice on stuff like this, and get your Mum to listen in. Their numbers in the Yellow Pages.

If you are hungry eat. If it hurts to eat solid foods eat soft foods. I would do your best to brush your teeth as normal even if it is uncomfortable.

my dentist told me to only eat foods that are not hot (hot/cold)and not hard for a week.
that is, until i went back to remove the stitch.
and try to chew on one side only. But food does not taste as delicious when u chew on one side only.
u still can eat most foods.. i ate bread..

It takes a couple of days gargle your mouth out with warm salt water that should help it heal faster. Do it at least three times a day. That was what my dentist told me after i had mine taken out.

What did your dentist say. I'd wait until the stiches come out or do it when you feel comfortable
