i read somewhere that your body uses more calories when you drink cold water as the body needs to warm it.

Whether you start with hot water or cold your mouth will not accept fluids with too much temperature difference.
Actually some studies reported show that the temperature of all that you swallow is at about your normal body temperature unless you gulp it.
The statement does not seem to have much going for it.
However, if you drink a lot of water just before a meal you tend to eat less. Unfortunately after the next visit to the bathroom you will feel hungry again.

Drinking warm water in the morning tends to loose weight. As cold water does not melt the fat in your stomach. Warm water does. Aslo you have a good digestive system. If you want to loose weight start dieting and exercise thats the best way. There is no fast way for that.

Agree with Anne - be careful about drinking too much water. Several marathon runners have died from drinking too much water too quickly after races. Their bodies lost a lot of minerals and salt from sweating; that's why people suggest you drink Gatorade, etc instead of regular water.
Also: the theory is that your body needs to heat the water up so that it can be used. Water is required in the energy-releasing process. So, it needs to be heated up (taking up energy) as it needs a certain temperature. I read that a cold glass of water, first thing in the morning, is a great idea. There's also a theory about using rock salt and water to speed up your metabolism. Read into it: apparently one teaspoon of rock salt, diluted in a glass of water, does wonders. Never tried it, but the theory was quite good.

Fat in the body acts as insulator, therefore exposure to cold (eating cold item, drinking cold water living in col area) tends to increase weight and exposure to heat tend to cause weight loss.
Therapeutic weight loss techniques
The least intrusive weight loss methods, and those most often recommended by physicians, are adjustments to eating patterns and increased physical exercise.
Usually, health professionals will recommend that their overweight patients combine a reduction of the caloric content of the diet, with an increase in physical activity.[6]
Raw vegetables are low in calories and high in nutrient density. Eating high quantities in blended or liquid form is a way to consume fewer calories and enjoy a feeling of satisfaction as body cells receive the nutrients they need.
Other methods of losing weight include use of drugs and supplements that decrease appetite, block fat absorption, or reduce stomach volume. Surgery is another method. Bariatric surgery artificially reduces the size of the stomach, limiting the intake of food energy.
Some of these treatments may have serious side-effects.

Well..............If you drink water it fills your stomach so you feel less hungry! But yup if you drink lukewarm water in the morning & then vomit it after 2-3 mins. It brings acids out with it.
And if you are gonna eat a huge meal just drink ice cold water 10-15 before the meal. It shrinks your intestine & you eat less!

I doubt if you can reduce your weight drinking cold water.
Try the Natural Cures to reduce your obesity/weight.
Ingestion of honey is an excellent home remedy for obesity. It mobilises the extra deposited fat in the body and puts it into circulation which is utilised as energy for normal functions. One should start with small quantity of about 10 g to be taken with hot water. The dose can be gradually increased.
Fasting on honey-lime juice water is highly beneficial in the treatment of obesity without the loss of energy and appetite. In this mode of treatment, one spoon of fresh honey should be mixed with a juice of half a lime in a glass of lukewarm water and taken at regularly intervals. Another effective remedy for obesity is an exclusive lemon juice diet. On the first day the patient should be given nothing but plenty of water. On the second day juice of three lemons mixed with equal amount of water should be given. One lemon should be subsequently increased each day until the juice of 12 lemons is consumed per day. Then the number of lemons should be decreased in the same order until three lemons are taken in a day. The patient may feel weak and hungry on the first two days, but afterwards the condition will be stabilised by itself. Cabbage is considered to be an effective home remedy for obesity. Recent research has discovered in this vegetable a valuable content called tartroric acid which inhibits the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat. Hence, it is of great value in weight reduction. A helping of cabbage salad would be the simplest way to stay slim, a painless way of dieting. A 100 g of cabbage yields only 27 kg of calories of energy while the same quantity of wheat bread will yield about 240 calories. Cabbage is found to possess the maximum biological value with minimum calorific value. Moreover, it gives a lasting feeling of fullness in the stomach and is easily digestible.
Hope this helps, Good Luck.

Ice water rather than cold water. They claim that the colder the water, the more calories your body has to burn to warm it up, to 98.6 for your body to pass it. When it does, it also passed fat. Try searching lemon ice water, that is supposed to be excellent for you, it's a natural body cleanser. I started sipping it last week, it was so humid here and it actually did seem to make my body feel better, and cooler.

while it is true your body burns more calories trying to warm up the cold water compared to if you drank warm water, it is not that much of a difference.
