any suggestions for model building?

i need some help with constructing a section model of a house. i need to incorporate louvres and i'd prefer if they would move to demonstrate their purpose in the building.....any suggestions on materials, design etc??

You can get balsa wood at an art supply store. Cuts easily with a sharp knife.

Thin plastic card (get from a hobby store) that could be cut by scissors. Maybe a small diameter dowel or plastic sprue attached to each panel by string glued to each panel be functional.
