The offgases from lead acid battery banks consist of hydrogen as main constituent and are hazardous beyond a low concentration limit . Present practice is to design battery rooms well ventilated to vent the offgases to outside air, instead of saving them as byproduct . The amount of off gases are generally small and saving is not economic though it is possible to save them by gas separation technic . Main purpose of battery banks are to act as reliable source of power for emergency .
