Prophet Adam was the first human on earth and first Prophet of Almighty God.

He was worshiping obviously The God Almighty. And he was teaching same thing to his children as well.

God Almighty send almost 124'00 Prophets and messengers in deferent places, in deferent time and deferent people. Al Prophet and messengers preached same basic message, that is worship one true God.
The God Almighty gives this life. So we have to spend our life according to His teachings. That means we have to submit completely to our Creator The God Almighty.

Complete Submission to our Creator The God Almighty is called Islam.

Person who submits our self to the Will of Almighty God is called Muslim. All Prophet of God including Prophet Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Final and last Prophet of The God Almighty taught us same.

Actually your question is 2 questions and they conflict with each other. Best religion? There is none because it died out hundreds of years ago when the bible was canonized and the christian church doctrine dominated. Jesus was a disciple of the Spirit of truth and that is what He told His followers to be. Makes the most sense? Don't you really want the real deal, not some phony substitute man-made religion? Read the words of Jesus in the new testament and look for the Spirit of truth to guide you from there.

The one I developed myself! Maverickism! (Though I'm not sure it could be called a religion) Why? Because we don't assume. We only claim to know what we are actually able to know. Rationality. A realistic, objective perspective. Open to all possibilities, and taking/interpretting things for what they are, rather than skewing perception to support a preconceived notion. It would help people to be able to understand the difference between facts and beliefs. A distinction we define clearly and easily.

It's difficult to choose another religion, considering the one (again, if it can even be called a religion) I chose is something I've developed over the course of my life, but if I had to, I'd say Buddhism, since it centers around relaxing, finding peace within, and refraining from interefering with the basic rights of others.

Its good to see that you have started questioning yourselves. Its a good start.

I believe that religion and god are created by another human being like us, who have questioned themselves like you at their time.

If you go by this, then it is clear that different people from different parts of the world had created a religion and a way of worshiping god, to improve themselves and the quality of life of the people in their community.

So my suggestion is not to follow just one religion, but follow the best practices which makes sense to you, that are suitable in the place you live and for your physical well being.

Religion is for people who do not know themselves. If you know yourself, then you will understand GOD and will see him everywhere, in everyone and start showing love and respect to everything.

But it is not easy, thats why religions are created. Religions have code of conducts, which if you follow whole heartedly understanding why the rules are created, then you will understand god. So religion is a way of reaching GOD for people who do not know themselves.

When you understand this and the practices followed in different religions and go up a level to state that you understand yourselves better, then you do not need religions.

God has given free will to each and every living being to choose what they want to do with their lives.

It is said that "Knowledge is what you know you know. It can be taught; you can acquire it from external sources. Intuition is what you do not know you know. It cannot be taught; you learn it on your own"

Try to develop your intuitive behaviour, then you will get answers to all your questions.

You can learn a lot of things if you question yourselves and the life that you are living. All the best

Since Islam is the last religion revealed by Allah, it possesses some elements that make it unique. One of these is its relevance for human beings regardless of place and time.

This means that Islam - submission to God - is a comprehensive institution which includes all the guidelines necessary for all aspects of life. Therefore, the best way to understand Islam is to look at it as more than a religion - as a complete way of life. In other words, it is a system which regulates every aspect of life, dealing with all issues - social, economic, educational, judicial, health, and even military. Thus, it is suitable for all human beings and for all times, since it is the final religion. Islamic law aims to achieve five goals for human beings in life: protecting the religion, protecting one's self, protecting one's possessions, protecting one's mind, and protecting one's offspring.

Therefore, God (Allah) decided on two main domains of law:
1. If the domain always requires change and progress, Allah legislated comprehensive yet flexible rules and gave people the chance to create and develop the necessary laws to satisfy the specific needs of a certain period of time. For example, in the rule of consultation (Shura), Allah decided that it should be the general rule for any government; however, its form and style are left open for people to choose and decide according to their needs.
2. If the domain does not require or lend itself to change or progress, Allah legislated fixed and detailed laws that govern all issues related to a specific area. Thus, there is no way for man to change or develop those laws, which were made for the welfare of all mankind. For example, the area of worshipping God contains fixed details which cannot be changed at all. These regard prayer, fasting, making pilgrimage, etc. Another example is in family matters, such as the laws of marriage, divorce, and inheritance.

To show how Islam cares for the environment, one can cite the many laws that protect the environment. About fourteen hundred years ago. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
"The world is green and beautiful, and Allah has appointed you as His stewards over it. He sees how you acquit yourselves."
Muhammad showed how important plants and trees are by saying: "Whoever plants a tree and looks after it with care until it matures and becomes productive will be rewarded in the Hereafter." Even in the territory of an enemy, Islam's care for plants, animals, and trees is profound. Abu Bakr, the first Caliph, or successor, to Muhammad (pbuh), instructed his troops that he was sending into battle not to cut down any trees or kill any animals except for food.
These are but a few examples of how Islam remains relevant in the modern world.

You don't just go faith shopping. As for the religion unknown to the masses......no.
Get to know yourself. What do you seek? With a sincere heart and open mind pray out to God (without any worldly denomination) and ask Him to pour into you. If you seek God and call upon Him, then He will answer you. Be patient, It won't be on your time schedule. Clarity and wisdom bring understanding, so ask that you be given the tools necessary to have a relationship with Him. Your understanding and confirmation of faith developes in time. If you are sincere and earnest, you will know when He is speaking to you. From there you will know what faith you are. I say this because if you classify God by "picking" a religion from what you read or hear from others, it isn't true faith but a decision you made by the words of man. Go directly to God and ask Him to reveil Himself in your heart. Don't listen to the fools who make themselves out to be knowledgible. This is a personal relationship that YOU are seeking. Find your answers by focusing on Him and that relationship will grow.
I am a christian. Again, don't follow the stereotypes of any religion or people. It will only cause you to stumble. If you approach God like this, He will know your heart's intentions. By going to Him for direction without assigning a name of a particular religion, He will know that you truly seek Him as God in general with no boundries or restraints. I have in no way influenced you to follow my faith. I know why I believe. You need to find your way to understanding. This way, you leave the "decision making" out of it, and let God be God. Take care
