after winxp boots,desktop screen opens but nothing works until this "detect networks" thing is over,hdd light is not on during this process,i guess it has a timeout value,normal xp startup programs start to load after this process, it takes like 1-2 minutes, i wanna change its timeout value.

You may want to try disabling it all together, and then just search for networks after the computer has started up and booted properly, or just get new RAM, you may not have a sufficient amount. However, I do believe disabling is the better idea, and then just manually searching for networks after boot process.

First of all, go to "Run" and type "msconfig" and click "OK". Go to the "Startup" Tab and select "Disable All". Note: this only applies if you have Administrative Privileges. Once you click "Apply" or "OK", reboot and see if that works
