Being open to possibilities, aware of rhythms, accepting of variation... these things come naturally to the well adapting... why deny your traits? Humans are great at adapting, obviously, so why throw in a wrench? What 'greater good' (I ironically ask) is there to justify defeatism and self-destruction?

Furthermore, a system functions even though its parts are corrupted. The whole shall continue, even if its parts decay... as it grows by design... I am referring to Everything.

Life is exposure to experiences, whereby, we learn why not to do those things which result in unhappiness for ourselves and others. We are all in this together !
