I've been thinking of this for a little while, it does not add up because I know many Christians that toke but I can not see why society still condemns it. I might smoke every once a year or so, actually it has been around 3 years since I last did. Is this a conservative Christian regulation and if not what do you think it is. I find it amazing that we allow alcohol consumption which is on many levels more dangerous than smoking pot.. I have been wondering how could this be illegalized when the majority of the population is for legalization of pot.

Mostly, yes. Originally, I think it was made illegal to give all those feds something to do once alcohol was made legal. And certainly the entrenched bureaucratic budget for salaries for cops, probation officers, court clerks, social workers, and on and on has something to do with it even today. But that would not be supported by taxes if there were not conservatives -- mostly Christian, but Muslims too, and possibly some Jews -- who feel it is justified to interfere in other people's personal lives in order to "save them from their sins." Most others acknowledge that once a person becomes an adult (18 or 21, depending on your point of view), he or she is responsible for their own body, their own mistakes.

But marijuana is an especially ironic target for all this, since it is so helpful as an herbal medicine for many conditions. And the older we Baby Boomers get, the more I marvel at the ones who are willing to forgo its comforts in order to maintain the status quo. Many of the conditions for which marijuana is a useful remedy are those of old age, or at least become more common as we age.

It really is time to get over the control game and let people be responsible for themselves.

P.S. to the guy who mentioned marijuana being illegal in many other countries which are not primarily Christian. Did you know the US government makes such laws a condition of financial arrangements, both aid and trade agreements? Their argument is they need help to stamp it out world-wide, so that it does not get imported into this country. Just control freaks all over again.

Its not legal because it cant be taxed. The government wants its cuts, conservative or not. A great example would be the tobacco industry. Tobacco is hard to grow and people can only depend on the corporations for it, thus giving HUGE tax cuts to the state(whispers: not to mention how many more people it kills then marijuna). Marijuana on the other hand can be grown in your back yard and sold on the street. Marijuana can help stop cancer cells and can even be takin a healthier way by eating it while tobacco cant do squat. If you want to test my theory try starting a gambling site. I bet you wont have any luck unless the feds get their cut.

no, the fight against pot makes too much money for the Government.
paid boder patrol agents,
paid customs agents,
paid smugglers,
donations to support the fight

plus it gives a reason to have more cops which increases your chance of getting busted.
gives rising numbers of employees to the police force which will allow for extra funding from the state

not to metion,
if you get busted you'll pay up on fines which can range quite drastically,
and if you go to jail, the state and/or county get funded to accomidate you too.

As well as drug and counciling classes which you'll pay for too.

Since anyone Can grow it, it becomes a great threat to this system, not to mention it would be hard to tax.
since It could be grown in your home, there's no need to buy a "pack" thusly making it a poor market starting off.

So, what do you think makes the world go around: Pot or Money.

I Do wish they wouldn't ruin peoples lives with such harsh penalties for possession.

I'll cover the current situation, but LJAY2000 Has great topics about the past that brought us up to about the 70's I think.
wow. love the cannabis culture mag too.

Do a bit of research on the criminalization of pot. First is was to keep the Mexicans out of the US, through the stamp act. Then though an enormous propaganda campaign, it was put in the same class as narcotics. The synthetic rope industry also had a hand in making cannabis illegal. It is pretty interesting stuff.

Marijuana was legal up to the end of prohibition. After prohibition was over turned, the alcohol producers realized that they were not getting the profits that they expected, and soon realized that the people had found a new vice, WEED.
So, they petitioned the FDA to have it declared a harmful substance, and it became a controlled substance that was quickly outlawed by congress, also due to alcohol manufactors and importers.

Well, then, what about China, Russia, Viet Nam, to name a few countries where marijuana use is banned. They aren't "Christian conservatives" ! Do you think that the concept of legalization of marijuana hasn't been considered in any other countries apart from the western world? It has and has been regarded as ridiculous idea since the LTE (long term effects) would ultimately render a country - useless. You know - "Welcome to flight number 77 - I'm your flight captain and am high on grass - so enjoy your trip". Catch my drift ? !!!

P.S. The latest and most current data on the THC component in marijuana has been found to promote psychosis to its users. A nation full of "nuts' - that's all we need!

No I think it's illegal because it's dangerous to your health. But if I had to pick one between alcohol and marijuana to make illegal it would be ETOH. Rather deal with a pot head than a drunk

Marijuana isn't unlawful because of Christian conservatives. The nutrition & Drug administration become created contained in the first position because a socialist reporter named Upton Sinclair wrote a propaganda e book attacking the beef packing market back contained in the early 1900s. This become in the course of the inventive era (which ought to actual be stated as the Regressive era because vast corporation seized administration of the authorities and commenced to positioned it to apply to advance their income and get rid of their competition, which they do to on the present time). It become in the course of the 60s at the same time as leisure drug use actual all started. the authorities did not commence implementing the guidelines till the 80s. we ought to continually get rid of those regulations if conceivable. It makes no sense to fill our prisons with those who use a substance that knocks them out. nicely, the prisons are absolutely the definition of failure. They actually have a drug commerce operating in them. Its also a waste of money to fasten people up for utilising a substance that harms no individual yet themselves. faith heavily isn't in the back of the ban. the authorities needs the drug sellers for an excuse to advance its skill. The drug sellers choose the authorities to maintain their monopolies and income. the status quo is useful to the individuals who remember. Alcohol prohibition created prepared crime in this us of a. Drug prohibition prolongs the life of prepared crime in this us of a.
