There are different ratings for bullet proof glass, just like bullet proof vests. Most likely the glass in your gas station would withstand some pistol fire. Most likely nothing from a rifle. Some magnum calibers may also be able to punch through like a .44, especially with ball ammo or something that has low expansion. Its more of a deterrent then a means of protection. I would not trust my life to it.

personally, I think they're not. In fact, I think buying reading glasses from the optician is also wasteful. Generic reading glasses are readily available at discounters, and a wide variety of frame choices are available too, and many are fashionable and trendy as well. And the prices are so much lower. I've worn the same strength reading glasses for a few years now, and have my vision checked yearly. I've had to make adjustments in strength over the past 10 or more years too. But specifically, I could have a number of pair (3 or 4 at least) for the same total price you mentioned for your glasses from Boots'. And personally, I'd rather have a few extra pair to keep in my car, and at the office, (and in the loo!!!), than 1 pricey pair. Another good thing about the cheapies is that you can just bin them when they get scratched or broken. With a posh pair, you'd be reluctant to bin them and if you lost or damaged them, you'd likely be right angry. Anyway, it's just my opinion.

Better hope the perp doesn't have anything bigger than a .38 other wise you are in trouble. It's just like saying stainless steel, will it stain after a while yes. Bullet resistant glass will it stop a bullet yes to a point most are designed for 9mm and below. Armored cars are designed for nothing bigger than a .308.

Dude Any Full Metal Jacket above a 357 mag can bust right through. It will stop most hollow points or at least bust them up real bad. Any center fire rifle will get you & a 22 mag full metal jacket will slice right through.
PS Real life test: a 357 mag will penatrate better than a 45 but the 45 has more punch.............Example: stick youself slow w/ a needle, it hurts, do it fast & it doesn't.......

Your Plexiglas window is there more for your masters' insurance than for your own protection. It is more for keeping Joe Creep out of their cash register.
There are MANY firearms that it wouldn't stop, among others, any AK clone loaded with FMJ rounds, fired at under 10 feet would go right through. A 12ga slug wouldn't even slow down.

That is all it is, bullet RESISTANT. It won't stop rifle bullets or really powerful handgun bullets. The idea is that the bad guy won't be carrying a very exotic weapon and it IS better than nothing.

If they use armor piercing or Teflon ammunition it will penetrate bullet Prof glass but regular shells will not penetrate.
