I found a stray kitten, but my dad said I can't keep her because he's allergic. but I can't get rid of her, I love her already. anyway, is there anyway I can keep her without aggrevating his allergies? do those pet dander eliminating sprays (or whatever) actually work? what about an air filter or purifier, would that work? the kitten only stays in the basement (because that's my room), and my dad only comes down here like once every two weeks, so it isn't fair that I should have to get rid of her.
Thx

oh, and, don't tell me I should just respect my dad and get rid of her. you don't know what I go through.

People, asking me to ask my dad to go to the doctor will not work. he won't even take an allergy test for me to prove that he's really allergic. the only way I'll be able to keep her is if I find some way so that she's hardly noticeable.

He could take allergy medicine if you are really responsible and can take care of the cat. Those other products really wouldn't keep things 100% and if your dad has a severe allergy problem when it comes to cats he would still suffer. I imagine that your dad has other reasons besides that he has allergies to the cat for not letting you keep the cat though.

Ah, yes, we do indeed know what you go through. Not specifically, but we all had dads and had to grow up.

No, you cannot keep the cat. It does demonstrate to your father that you respect him. The air conditioning/ heating system will carry the allergens throughout the house, so the kitten would make him ill. It is too bad you've fallen in love with it, but you love your dad more, and you don't want him feeling bad. Perhaps in the future, if his doctor says it will work for your dad, you could get a hairless cat. Others with allergies have found the hairless cat to be fine with them. They are, however, expensive. Good Luck.

For people who want pets and who have allergies the following can help

You will need a good moisturizing shampoo one with tea tree in it but do not get it in her ears or eyes

Wash the cat every week yes they do get used to it

Every day wipe her down with a damp cloth

People tend to have more of a reaction to cats than dogs because the dander is found in the saliva as well as the skin and since cats spend allot of time "grooming" themselves they have allot more dander on them.

Vacuum every day and whip down every thing she sits on.

Wash the bedding every two days

Having a good air filter will help with any air Born dander

But the hair is going to be on you.

change your clothes just before you leave your room and wash your hands.

Depending on your Dad's allergies you may not have a choice

Is your dad definitely allergic to cats?

People are allergic to different things.

Actually, I am also allergic to cats. If I touch a cat and touch near my eye, it swells up and gets itchy. But I'm not allergic to everything.

You should ask your dad if he's definitely allergic to cats.

Also, even if he is, if he doesn't rub his eyes then he might be OK. I am still thinking about getting a cat because it is very rewarding for both.

I think he needs to accurately diagnose what he is allergic to and then go from there.

I hope you can keep your cat :-)
