We're accustomed to typing 'ie' and not 'ei'. I think since 'th' is another digraph that we type constantly, we go into 'speed mode' and muscle memory takes over.
Alternatively, the state of atheism is described by an adjective, 'athy', the superlative of which is 'athiest'. As in: beletje_vos is athy, Bad Squirrel, Bad is athier, but Markyyy is the athiest of all.

well athiest atheist. It depends on how you pronounce it. Atheist is A-the-ist. Which is right. But some people naturally pronounce it athe-i-est and logically you'd think the i came before the e. There is also that rule 'i before e except after c' which atheist breaks.
