Just use plain ground beef and shape them into patties with your hands, you don't have to put anything in them or you can spice up a few of them and leave one or 2 plain for your dad. Below is a great site that will help you and good luck!!!

OK, this should work, mainly because it's my dad's recipe and he seriously dislikes spices, I've cooked this recipe many times since my student years and it never fails to go down a treat.
You need:
Steak Mince (not just beef mince, make sure you get the good stuff)
Half a medium sized onion (diced)
2 or 3 digestive biscuits
Salt and pepper
One stock cube or gravy powder.
First, put those digestives in a freezer bag/sandwich bag and pulverise them (all the better if you have a mortar and pestle), get them down to small, small pieces.
Take the mince and knead in first the salt and pepper (not too much), then the stock cube (crumbled - of course), then the ground-up digestives and finally the very finely chopped onion.
Divide these into portions and make patties from them. Then shallow-fry them. To enhance the flavour, fry up the other half of the onion in the oil first, this gives the oil flavour which is then further cooked into the burger. (although you should fish out this onion if you then want to cook more).
This recipe will produce burgers of a nice taste, especially if you do, as I advise, use steak mince rather than the regular stuff (I almost exclusively use Scottish Steak when it is available to me).
As an interesting sidenote, friends of mine once made burgers using rabbit, very nice tasting and apparently made with just the minced rabbit meat - this provided a very rich flavour.

Here's a good one & it has no spices. I take 2 packages of brown gravy but only mix 1 cup of water instead of 2 so it will be thick. Then once it thickens I add a can of mushrooms. I put kosher salt on the burger while it's cooking to bring out the flavor, then use mozerella cheese on top. I use onion buns & put some of the mushroom brown gravy on top. It's absolutely wonderful tasting & if you don't like onion buns, sesame seeded ones are good too. Usually I'll grill or nuke the buns to get them warm because that adds a little more taste as well.

there are so many things you can do if your dad does not like spices like when you mix the meat you can add fresh garlic, onions, and any kind of cheese that will give your burger a lot of flavor. Or you could add guacamole, BBQ sauce. Or try onion rings with BBQ sauce and ranch dressing instead of mayo that adds flavor or saute some mushrooms with onions, garlic and worschier sauce and add it to your burger with you fave cheese are you can mix the BBQ sauce or worschire sauce to the meat before you cook it or try MRS Dash it is a spice but it it really good and healthy.

you dont need bread crumbs or anything but try replacing some of the ground beef with ground turkey-they come out SOOOOOO good, your dad will wonder what you did to make them taste wonderful without spices.
my dad hates spices too, but my mom always tosses in a little bit of garlic powder. lol
added bonus-ground turkey is a lot cheaper than beef and once it's cooked--you wont be able to tell the difference.
it just has a yummy flavor
also-when I make burgers I add a little bit of ketchup, mustard and bbq sauce when I mix up my meat- they come out VERY juicy and tasty

2lbs ground beef, 1 cup plain dry bread crumbs, 2 eggs(or 1 cup egg substitute), 1/4 cup ketchup, 1/3 cup Worchestershire sauce, 1/3 cup finely chopped onions( or 1 package onion soup mix). onions or soup mix are optional. Combine in large mixing bowl and form into patties. If you use smaller amount of beef, remember to reduce ingredients accordingly. Can also be cooked as a meatloaf at 350 degress in a 13x9 baking dish for 1 hour or until done.

errmm...let's see....how did i make my burgers? oh, my burgers are simple... and sometimes i didn't put a hinch of spice!
Ingredients:
Bread
Beef @ chicken meat
Veggies
Cheese (grated cheese is best)
Unsalted @ salted butter
How you make them:
first of all...wash the vegetables and chop them. put them aside. Then you slice the beef(or chicken) into thin slices. fry the beef(or chicken) with a little butter on a frying pan. when you fry them, add grated cheese. when the meat looks nice and perfect for you, quickly turn off the gas and put the meat on a slice of bread. add the veggies and add some pepper (if you want to) and then, put another slice of bread above. and there you have it, my homemade burgers!

I like mine with just ground meat, and some very finely chopped onion in it. Some people like to mix a bit of ketchup or BBQ sauce in it too.
