I have to go with CD on this one. There is no necessity to 'attain' 'enlightenment', or any other 'state', we exist in all 'states' at all 'times', to move from one to another is merely a 'trick' of moving one's focus, a bit like the noviate saying to Neo, in the Matrix, 'you only need to realise the truth, there is no spoon'.
We are 'there', because we never left, to return it is only a shift of attention.

Yes, enlightenment is attainable.
Just learning new things and acknowledging and confirming what groups of people know are a few of the paths to enlightenment. Follow the paths, and, as the theory goes, you'll eventually reach a state of enlightenment in your lifetime. Good luck!!!

Enlightenment is possible, but to attain it is a more difficult process. The reason I say this is everyone has different life experiences and there is no exact process to achieve it. There are different tools to help us achieve this goal, but these tools are from past enlightened ones and times have changed. The meaning of Enlightenment for one person will be different than another person since of different life experiences and their different understanding of the world. Copying the footsteps of a person will not make you reach enlightenment, although to some it may help. My understanding of enlightenment is that it first starts with understanding yourself and your function with your environment. It is a self development process and we may never reach that goal because things always change and it becomes more difficult to achieve as there are more burdens that we face, but always have hope.

depends on what "enlightenment" means to you personally. Personally, I would never want to achieve a state like that because I think it makes me a better person to keep striving for the better. I'm always motivated for something more, and thats what makes me succeed in life. Not having attained something, but striving for something. There will always be more.

Yes, but you have to approach it in the right way.
Energetically, balancedly, friendlily, mentally-unified-ly (is that a word?), mindfully, diligently, virtuously, heroically, insightfully, wisely...
If one can pull this off, I think one can do it.
I should add: patiently... :-)
