you're right

when he arrived, he began fighting with the thief = cuando (not cuándo) él llegó, (él, you don't need to put it again) comenzó a pelear con el ladrón.

Hope that helps ;)

Cuando él llegó, comenzó a pelear con el ladrón.

It is not necessary to say él all the time.

Cuándo = When (with an accent) only in a question.
When is your birthday?
¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?

otherwise it has no accent.

Your sentence is correct. The second 'el' is not necessary and sounds funny.
"Cuando él llegó, comenzó a pelear con el ladrón"
'Pelear' is correct. It's used as an infinitive after 'comenzar'

"Che" is an Argentinian expression that means something like "buddy"..

"che" also means "what" or "that" in Italian.

Cuando llegó comenzo a luchar / pelear con el ladrón.

I think this is better than literal translation....
